Water & Stone is a group practice focused on bringing a contemplative approach to mental health. Together we are here to find you a therapist you connect with and are comfortable working with, so you can get the most out of your experience and feel fully supported and engaged in the process. We work with people from diverse backgrounds and can offer a few options based on your needs and budget (individual work, groups, etc.) We offer traditional talk therapy, creative arts therapy, and bring many contemplative and mindfulness practices into session, personalizing the approach based on what you are comfortable with. Your first step will be a brief 10 min phone call with our founder and director Emery to discuss what you are looking for, answer any questions you might have, and hear about which therapist might be a good fit. You'll also get a chance to discuss your options for therapy and how the services match with your budget. No pressure and, if it feels good to you, you can decide when to take the next step.
Rise to change your story is a mental health practice based in New York City which provides mental health services to individuals, couples and families struggling in their relationships with themselves, others and/or with money/spending. Rise to change your story emerged from our belief, that we make meaning of our life, victories and struggles through the stories we live out, the stories we internalize about ourselves and the ones we share when we interact with others. Our life stories emerge, are shaped (and also limited) by our social, cultural, familiar and interpersonal contexts. We all learn the standards by which we measure ourselves and each other through the stories we see and hear, and by the stories we tell each other. We believe that during difficult times in life, we tend to be more vulnerable and we have a sense of being stuck in stories that usually restrict the possibilities we perceive for a better life. There is nothing wrong with us for that. Sometimes we manage to figure things on our own but sometimes we don’t. It happens. We cannot possibly have all the solutions for all the challenges we encounter, and therapy is one way to figure things out in the context of a supportive environment where you can further explore different options that you may have not considered. Our work is based on helping people explore and experience some alternative story lines that may already exist in their lives or may have existed, but have been forgotten or overshadowed. In our practice our mission is to support you to rise and change your story. A story with themes and plots that are more satisfying, more fulfilling, more empowering and more aligned with what matters the most to you. We believe such stories are always there if we look for them. We believe TODAY IS THE DAY TO RISE AND CHANGE YOUR STORY.
Hi! My name is Sydney Huppert (she/her), and I am a New York State licensed clinical mental health counselor based in Brooklyn, NY. Being a college student—while also navigating identity, familial expectations, social anxiety, academic pressures, substance use, sex, sexuality, and questions about the future—can be a lot. I get it. With personal experience in many of these areas and professional experience supporting youth and young adults through trauma, mental health challenges, and life transitions, I know how overwhelming this stage can feel. My name is Eric Almond, LMSW, and I’ve worked with youth in community programs, outpatient clinics, and campus-based support spaces. I also know what it's like to return to school after some time away, and the challenges that inevitably follow. Whether you're new to school, returning, or continuing later in life, I aim to create a space that feels grounding, warm, and affirming—one where you don’t have to have it all figured out to be taken seriously. You're allowed to show up just as you are, and we’ll work from there. I offer a free fifteen minute virtual consultation to see if we're a good fit. PSYCHOTHERAPY SERVICES: Rebecca’s clinical focus is on helping adult female identified dancers develop healthy relationships with their bodies and food. She guides clients in reconnecting with their bodies, often using the process of “embodiment,” a multilayered awareness of your body and how you connect to or relate to the world around you. Through the holistic practices of mind- body awareness, Rebecca educates her clients on how their emotions may sometimes be reflected through physical symptoms, often called psychosomatic symptoms. Working with Rebecca, clients also receive guidance on eating in a self attuned way to manage disordered eating behaviors. She works from the Health at Every Size (HAES) perspective and helps clients understand the internal and external factors that contribute to disordered eating, body image issues and problems with self esteem. Dancers are always on display, whether taking recreational classes at the studio or at rehearsal and especially during performances. Outside of the dance world, there’s the everyday societal expectations of how our bodies should be. Rebecca is familiar with the unique challenges dancers face on and off stage. PERFORMANCE ENHANCEMENT COACHING FOR PERFORMING ARTISTS: Contact Rebecca for more information. With her background in Applied Sports and Performance Psychology, Rebecca offers individual and group coaching sessions to adult dancers. Coaching sessions are available to help dancers of all levels achieve improved overall performance, using mental skills training. Coaching is separate from health care service.
I believe psychotherapy is a project between two people where sources of emotional pain and anguish are discovered and revisited, where what has been denied, unimagined, forgotten, or come to be unspeakable can become imagined, felt and spoken. The process generates an understanding of ourselves that is vastly more dynamic than what our relationships, politics and culture allow, leading to the easing of suffering and the creation of new possibilities. The therapy I provide is open, an invitation. There is a freedom to it that takes courage and tolerance. It can involve a deconstructive or constructive momentum where you may not necessarily be told what to say or how to feel. It is an invitation to notice what comes to mind and what does not. What can emerge in a therapy is dynamic. It can surprise, frustrate, thrill and provoke. These experiences are worked through together. As you bring yourself as fully as possible to what confuses or afflicts, I will help guide you with my understanding of the mind toward a life of growth and healing.
Do you find yourself stuck in the same unhealthy cycles despite your efforts to change? I can help. As an active and empathic therapist with fifteen years of experience, I believe in getting to the root of someone's difficulties. Together we will identify your feelings and patterns of behavior, understand the life events that impact your current experience, and enhance your inner resources for achieving your goals. I work with individuals, couples, and families who are experiencing anxiety, depression, interpersonal problems, and major life transitions. I draw from my psychodynamic training at NYU, postgraduate psychoanalytic certification, and the use of evidence-based interventions (including cognitive behavioral therapy) aimed at relieving distress, increasing coping tools, and improving your quality of life. Finding a good fit is essential when working with any therapist. I offer a brief telephone consultation that allows us to discuss your goals and to decide whether I am the right person to help you accomplish them. Feel free to contact me by telephone at (914) 830-9171, or send me a message by clicking here.
