Therapists for college students near 10003
Experience Psychotherapy is a psychotherapy practice grounded in the understanding that working with experience in the present moment is a profoundly powerful building block for promoting personal growth and health. I work with people collaboratively to develop the skills to navigate life and relationships with more confidence and flexibility. College is often a time in life of great growth and transition. This can be exciting, but also stressful and disorienting. Therapy can be a place to organize ourselves in the midst of these stressful periods. Michael can work with plans that have out of network coverage.
College is an exciting but challenging time, and it’s normal to feel overwhelmed by the pressures of academics, social life, and planning for the future. If you’re feeling anxious, stressed, or uncertain about your path, I’m here to help. I specialize in working with students like you who might be struggling with anxiety, motivation, procrastination, or relationship challenges. Whether you’re dealing with the stress of exams, navigating new relationships, or questioning your identity and future goals, we can work together to create a more balanced, fulfilling life. My approach is warm, supportive, and non-judgmental, focusing on practical strategies to help you overcome internal struggles and build the confidence you need to thrive both in college and beyond.
Therapy works by creating an open and non-judgmental environment for clients to begin reflecting on their experiences. By bringing an authentic and empathic approach to therapy, Peter helps clients explore and access parts of themselves that they may have been closed off to in the past. By exploring past experiences and working creating positive change in the present day, therapy can help increase a client’s ability to navigate relationships, understand their emotions and advocate for themselves. Peter works primarily from psychodynamic and emotion-focused approaches. He believes that relationships form the core of our experiences, and as such, the therapeutic relationship is one of the greatest tools of therapy. Peter strives to bring his authentic self into the therapy space as a way of helping his clients do the same. Peter completed his internship at Fordham University's Counseling & Psychology Services, and has extensive experience working with students and young adults. He completed additional psychodynamic training at the Kull Initiative for Psychotherapy, where he continues to work as a therapist, supervisor, and Associate Clinical Director.
Sometimes we may feel that we're supposed to have all the answers to the challenges life throws our way, even when that isn’t always possible. An achievement focus can come at the expense of other areas of our lives. I see therapy as a collaborative experience. I work both on-on-one and with couples to help unlock what holds them back to gain an understanding of how our histories shape our present, while building a foundation of skills in the here-in-now to promote healing and a future that is self-defined. My approach is solution-focused and uses elements of Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and Psychodynamic Therapy to identify and build on your strengths. As a Substance Abuse Specialist, I also help individuals transform their relationships with substances and behaviors that feel out of control. Therapy should be a process that makes us feel free to be fully ourselves. To heal and enliven us to be authentically, beautifully, and powerfully exactly who we are, unbound by what has in the past, held us back. Let's work together to find strength, meaning, healing, and freedom so you can define your own path. It's time to be free and come alive again, let's do it together. Contact me today for a free, 30 minute video or phone consultation to see if we are a good fit to work together.
I specialize in treating anxiety, panic, stress, OCD, relationship challenges, and transitions. Are your thoughts and behaviors self-defeating at times, blocking you from what you really want in life? We all see the world through different lenses, which are formed and strengthened by our genes, the messages we received growing up, and our accumulated experiences. Sometimes this lens can become distorted, causing us to perceive and interact with the world in unhelpful ways. Certain thinking and behavioral patterns may get in the way of relationships with others, with work, and with ourselves. Psychotherapy can be a really important resource for preserving self-care and building resiliency. Whether you are seeking therapy to work on a specific concern or goal, to get through a tough time, or to understand yourself better, I strive to provide my clients with a supportive, collaborative, and judgment-free space. Our work together will involve understanding your unique patterns and developing skills to cope with unhelpful thoughts and overwhelming emotions, decrease unworkable behaviors, and increase value-driven living. Life as a student can be stressful, especially when you find yourself impacted by academic or administration complications, or struggles outside of school. As a therapist, I take a holistic approach in order to recognize all the complexities of who you are and your unique situation, and strive to provide a space where you feel supported and understood. Many of my clients identify as BIPOC and/or LGBTQ (and found me because they wanted a therapist who shares their identity), although I have worked with students from all walks of life. I have a Masters of Social Work from CUNY Hunter and seven years of clinical experience with techniques such as psychodynamics, Motivational Interviewing, and CBT. These have helped me with students struggling with a variety of concerns - depression, self-esteem, family or relationship problems, and more. Let's talk together about what's been on your mind and explore how to support you on your journey. I look forward to hearing from you!
You’ve been wondering why you do & feel the things you do—why specific behaviors keep repeating, why you feel stuck, no matter how much you try to change. You’ve done the self-help books, the podcasts, maybe a few short-term therapy stints, but you still find yourself repeating the same patterns. I help curious, motivated people ready to go deeper than symptom management. Together, we’ll explore the hidden patterns, emotional blocks, & past experiences that still shape your present. Our work will be thoughtful & challenging in the best way — the kind of therapy that helps you grow in ways you didn’t know were possible. My approach blends Psychodynamic Therapy with elements of CBT, DBT, Black feminist theory, empowerment, and sociopolitical thought. This allows us to work at both a deep, exploratory level and a practical, skill-based level, always tailored to you. Therapy can be challenging at times—it asks you to face yourself honestly—but it can also be profoundly enriching and life-changing. I work best with clients who are ready to commit to weekly, twice-weekly, or thrice-weekly sessions, so we can create the momentum & depth needed for real transformation. If you’re ready to begin that journey, send me an email.
I work hard to create a safe and inviting space for my clients to work on whichever problems they choose to bring into their sessions. My approach reflects my empathic, nonjudgmental, and compassionate style. I believe that the therapeutic relationship is one of the most important factors in treatment, as I believe that healing happens when there is a strong therapeutic alliance. I collaborate with and empower my clients to harness or reclaim their inner strength and power. I have experience working with clients who struggle with anxiety, depression, relationship stressors, work/life stress, life transitions, and trauma.

Hi :) Congratulations on taking the first steps in looking into therapy! Everyone goes through hard times and mental health is important. I am a dedicated Graduate Social Work Student at Binghamton University, building on the strong foundation I established during my undergraduate studies in Social Work at SUNY Plattsburgh. My professional journey has equipped me with valuable experience in supporting individuals who identify as neurodivergent, LGBTQ+, and those struggling with substance use disorders. I am well-versed in therapeutic techniques such as Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), and Motivational Interviewing, and I adopt a collaborative, team-oriented approach to help clients achieve their personal goals. My passion lies in addressing complex trauma and personality disorders, areas in which I am deeply committed to making a meaningful impact. Looking ahead, I aspire to open a practice dedicated to serving clients with intricate and challenging cases. My mission is to ensure that everyone I work with understands that they are not alone, and that effective help and support are always available. I aim to provide a judgment free space where you can express yourself and process both the good things and the challenges in life. I look forward to working with you! Welcome! At times, we all experience difficult emotions such as depression, anxiety, and self-doubt. These feelings can negatively affect our relationships, as well as work or academic life. You may be struggling with professional dissatisfaction, conflict with a family member or partner, or possibly just feel stuck and unsure how to move forward in your life. My goal is to create a safe, supportive, and reflective space that empowers you to build insight, achieve balance, and accomplish your goals. I provide a warm, non-judgmental, and open dialogue, and we work together to facilitate growth and healing, and deepen your self-awareness. By listening attentively and combining empathy with compassion, I work with my clients to help them better understand their feelings and beliefs, and to utilize this knowledge to create more self-understanding, self-acceptance, and fulfillment in their lives. Education Bachelor of Arts, Tufts University Master of Social Work, New York University Four Year Adult Training Program in Psychoanalysis & Comprehensive Psychotherapy, National Institute for the Psychotherapies (NIP)
Union Square Cognitive Therapy is a private psychology practice in downtown NYC. Our expert therapists specialize in the cognitive-behavioral treatment of depression, anxiety disorders, eating disorders, stress management, and body image. Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy (CBT) is a relatively brief, skills-focused treatment that has been shown to be effective for a wide variety of psychological problems. In CBT, clients work collaboratively with their therapist to address their interconnected thoughts, behaviors, and emotions.
“I want to feel happier and less depressed.” “We would like to improve our relationship.” “I would like to feel calmer and more in control, in spite of the stress, loss and trauma I have experienced.” “We want to help our children cope with our divorce.” “We need to figure out how we are going to live as a divorced family.” These are some of the most frequent goals of my clients as we work together. Many of the stresses and conflicts my clients face can be due to life’s experiences and losses or can come from within. Stress and conflict can lead to disintegration of relationships with our partners and our children, and even in how we view ourselves. Strengthening coping skills, emotional connection and intimacy can help repair fractures, increase compassionate understanding, and build closeness. Focusing on positive growth, shifting well-engrained patterns, and building greater self-acceptance can create lasting change and happiness. As a clinical psychologist with over 40 years of experience, I help adults, couples and families, by integrating many different therapeutic approaches to best fit my clients’ needs.
