I enjoy working with college students and I am passionate about helping neurodivergent adults (autistic, ADHD, etc) with my affirming and strengths-based perspective. I have training and specialize in helping people adjust to visible and invisible disabilities such as chronic illness/pain or physical injuries. I am non-religious and have training and experience working with religious trauma. I also enjoy working with artists, musicians, and other creative types, as well as anyone looking to integrate mind and body and incorporate mindfulness into their life. I use a somatic (body-centered) approach and am certified in working with trauma. I also do Autism/ADHD assessments for adults.

The clients I work best with are ready to take an attitude of curiosity and reflection towards the patterns and beliefs that no longer serve them. You may be experiencing depression, anxiety, adjustment difficulties, or relationship stress and are hoping to relate to emotions in a healthier way or gain new self-perspective. Whether it is your first time in therapy or are returning to address matters from a new light, I believe in the innate wisdom of each person and approach our work humbly.

As an art therapist and counselor, I utilize the process and product of art making to support individuals in discovering insight, moving toward growth, and finding balance. Art therapy can offer an alternative means of communication to express difficult emotions or experiences that may feel impossible to put into words. You do not have to identify as an artist to find healing through art therapy. Art making is always optional and no artistic skills or previous experience is needed. If you would like to learn more about what therapy might look like or how I can support you, please feel free to contact me.

Clinical Social Work/Therapist
Portland, OR

Hi, I’m Sara Carmona (she/her), a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) in Oregon and Colorado and Certified Perinatal Mental Health Therapist (PMH-C). I’ve been providing mental health support since 2011, with a focus on perinatal and reproductive mental health. I work with people across the full span of their reproductive lives—from menarche to menopause. This includes support for fertility challenges, pregnancy and postpartum, birth trauma, abortion, miscarriage, stillbirth, infant loss, birth trauma, and postpartum psychosis recovery. I work with individuals navigating the spectrum of premenstrual mood disorders and perimenopause/ menopause-related changes. My approach is collaborative and relational. I believe healing happens through support, connection, conversation and the sharing of practical tools that make a difference in daily life. I draw from evidence-based therapeutic interventions while centering your lived experience, strengths, and goals. Together, we’ll explore what’s hard, build insight, and identify steps that feel manageable and meaningful. I practice from an anti-oppressive, anti-racist framework and value the unique identities and lived experiences of each person I work with. River City Counseling LLC welcomes individuals of all cultures, races, abilities, religions, sexual orientations, and gender identities. I am open to coordinating care with your medical team, family, or other individuals you'd like to involve in your counseling services.

Our lived experiences shape the world around us and how we interact with it. Therefore, I believe understanding someone’s story is instrumental in any therapeutic process. Therapy is meant to help someone heal, build skills, break out of patterns, and gain further insights into oneself. It’s an investment in yourself so that you can have a future not burdened in anguish. As someone who identifies as multiracial, I have firsthand knowledge about the intersectionality of race and culture. I honor each person in front of me and foster a space that is safe where healing can take place. I use a strengths-based approach and pull from different evidence-based modalities such as DBT, CBT, and CPS. Treatment is individualized for the person, not to fit in a box. I have several years working as a clinician within a variety of health care settings with the most recent being with adolescents and adults in acute care settings. In addition, I have experience working with first responders and healthcare professionals.

If you are struggling to get through the day and need support, you're in the right place. Anxiety and depression can seem like the only voice of reason at times, and therapy is a great way to help sort through these confusing and distressing emotions. Understanding that change takes time and can be difficult is one of my core values as a person-centered therapist. I'm passionate about working with people from multicultural backgrounds, as well as those in the LGBTQIA2S+ community. I became a therapist because I enjoy helping people realize their true potential, and believe in the therapeutic process as a way to reach that. When outside of the office, I enjoy being outdoors and connecting with nature. I love to hike, ski, and go camping with my friends and family. Music is a big part of my life, and I enjoy playing the Ukulele. Life can be extremely difficult, and reaching out for help is the first step to healing. It's hard to go through symptoms alone. I'm currently taking on new clients ages 11 and up, both in person and via Telehealth.

Being part of the interconnected natural world, we thrive in connection, and without connection, we wither. In our work together we will collaborate in understanding what makes you come alive and wither, to look for ways to get unstuck and make meaning of your emotions, reactivity, and suffering. I believe that individuals and families can tap into their inner strength to repair and grow new resilience with guidance and support. My role is to restore balance, build communication, and provide support to help you create space to learn and integrate new skills with new perspectives as they thrive in connection. I am here to create a space for you to explore, to collaborate with you to make meaning of your challenges and stories. I am a systemic and integrated therapist using various modalities to look at every aspect of a person’s life to understand their lived experiences better. I am trained to utilize EMDR to help with PTSD and other trauma-related disturbances. Being an immigrant myself, raising children, and building a place of my own as a BIPOC therapist while navigating different life stages and challenges, I am familiar with the tension that arises from differences in cultural/generational values and bicultural experiences. Ultimately, I want to support and empower you on your journey to be you. Additionally, I have 20 years of experience as a teacher of K-12 & College-age students to draw on to help me in our collaboration. Contact me, now!

Congratulations on taking steps to getting support! Therapy is a way to not feel so alone with our pain, change our thoughts and behaviors so they are more adaptive, and allow us to live in a more expansive way. I see you as the expert on you, and my role as an expert in healing, together we collaborate to get you where you want to be in life. Brain science, attachment theory (childhood relationship with our caregivers), and the context of our culture (as it intersects with our identities) are the lenses I use to strengthen your awareness, feel feelings, and heal. Laughter and peace are a necessary part of healing too! I am trained in art therapy, attachment-focused EMDR, Brainspotting, and "parts work," or Internal Family Systems, to work with the limbic area (where trauma is stored) of the brain in order to heal both "big T" and "little t" trauma. Studies have shown that in order to heal trauma and change thoughts/feelings/behavior body and brain based therapies are necessary.

Welcome! I consider counseling a creative space in which you and I collaborate to understand your interpersonal patterns, explore your emotions, build an individualized set of coping skills, and create accountability for working toward your goals. I specialize in treatment for adults, and I work with individuals and couples to understand the roots of your current distress, target issues that are causing daily problems, build self-compassion, and develop evidence-based strategies for ongoing management of symptoms. I work well with individuals and couples who are ready to make and change and motivated for therapy. I am an integrative therapist, meaning I use tools and frameworks from various approaches to counseling based on your unique needs, identities, and lived experiences. My doctoral-level training has supported me in understanding current research to provide you evidence-based interventions in addition to a warm and supportive space to process. I also offer psychodiagnostic assessment, including testing for mood disorders, personality disorders, ADHD, and general IQ testing. Please feel free to reach out for more details. Whether for counseling or assessment, I look forward to collaborating with you on your goals!

I help adults, couples, and families who feel trapped in a cycle of loneliness and disconnection, cut off from themselves, and unhappy with the trajectory of their relationships and life goals. I have also been an instructor and lecturer at various universities and colleges for over 12 years and understand the unique stress students face in situations such as navigating relationships within student cohort communities, dealing with out-of-touch professors and administration, facing non-exclusive environments, and dealing with staff and student health services. I prioritize confidentiality and privacy, helping you access available services with confidence and make informed decisions about your college experience without regretting the sacrifices you make to attend college. I have over 20 years of experience as a psychotherapist and dance movement therapist, specializing in treating anxiety, depression, loneliness, intimacy, communication problems, learning differences, self-esteem, health issues, life transitions, grief & loss, professional/work issues, and family and relationship stress and estrangement, ensuring comprehensive support for your unique needs. My work involves creating a safe, neutral space where we can engage in open dialogue and work systematically with empathy toward healing, growth, and solutions, guiding you through a clear, collaborative process. I enjoy working with people who are nervous about beginning therapy or have never participated in couples or family estrangement counseling.
