Therapists for college students near New York, NY
Sometimes we can feel stressed and lost with relationships, our families, and ourselves. We all need someone to listen to up. You might wish you could improve your sex life in your romantic relationships or change your family and relationships interactions. Maybe you want to live a calm and peaceful life and overcome past traumas that don't let you move on. Replaying your history over and over, wishing things were different. It might be the way you think and treat yourself that brought you here. I am LCSW, a certified sex & relationship therapist (AASECT), and EMDR certified who helps clients to explore their sexuality and relationships and find the right place for them. My sex and relationship approach addresses issues such as intimacy, parenting issues, broken trust, sexual identity exploration, sex education, sexual dysfunction, vaginismus and pain disorders, open relationships, passion, sex addiction, sexual trauma, pregnancy, and postpartum depression, changes in the family, relationships and more. I am working virtually with adults, older adults, individuals, families, couples, the LGBTQIA+ community, kink, ENM, open relationships, and poly informed.

As an Attachment based EMDR Certified Therapist I work well with high achieving young adults who feel unsatisfied in their relationships and struggle with health challenges.
My practice focuses on helping my clients identify and live according to their values. I meet my clients where they are at with empathy and acceptance, and together we explore their feelings, thoughts, strengths, and needs. I practice using a queer and trans-affirming, anti-racist, anti-ableist, trauma-informed lens. I tailor my sessions to meet the needs of each client, and I am also a certified Therapeutic Game Master who enjoys utilizing role play and games in therapy with adolescents and adults to practice skills for decision making, frustration tolerance, and managing conflict. I wear a mask at all in-person appointments and encourage my clients to wear one, as well.
I am a Ukrainian-born therapist-in-training with a lifelong passion for psychology. Though my journey into mental health wasn’t straightforward, it’s deeply personal. For years, I pursued a career in finance, believing it was the path to success and fulfillment. I thought I was living a happy life, but societal pressure had pushed me into a mold that didn’t feel authentic. The stress and constant pressure finally culminated in my first panic attack, followed by a severe episode of OCD that left me utterly defeated. Through years of therapy, healing, and self-discovery, I emerged stronger, with a profound appreciation for life and a renewed sense of purpose. Leaving my finance career behind, I stepped into the field of mental health to help others navigate their own “dark nights of the soul.” I aim to empower individuals to become their happiest, healthiest selves, unlocking their potential for growth and transformation on every level. In my work, I use evidence-based approaches tailored to meet each client’s unique needs. My favorite interventions include Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), where we explore and challenge unhealthy beliefs and thought patterns that hold you back. I also take a trauma-informed approach, understanding that past experiences shape our behaviors and thoughts, often on a subconscious level. To treat anxiety and OCD, I employ Exposure and Response Prevention (ERP) and Inference-Based Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (I-CBT), which help rewire the brain's response to fear and intrusive thoughts. These tools are backed by science and offer lasting change by utilizing the brain’s neuroplasticity—what fires together, wires together, as the neuropsychologist Donald Hebb famously said. And if you’re a Harry Potter fan like me, you might appreciate this: I often think of mental health struggles as Dementors, sucking away joy and energy, leaving us feeling powerless. But just as in the Wizarding World, there’s a way to protect yourself—the Patronus Charm! In therapy, evidence-based interventions, the therapeutic alliance, and empathy work like your Patronus, empowering you to fight back against the challenges that feel all-consuming. Together, we can work to summon your happiness and create a safe, fulfilling future.
It takes a great deal of courage to reach out for help and start the personal journey towards healing. You are not alone, Grace Street Counseling is here to provide support, compassion, and a safe space for self discovery.
Jung said “We don’t get wounded alone and we don’t heal alone.” Meaning everything that is hurt within a relationship must be healed within one. As a therapist, I believe in deep relational work, whether that is in an individual setting or with a parent-child dyad/triad. I am not about “quick fixes” and believe that the best results come with time and curiosity. I work with both adults as well as caretakers of children alongside their child. I worked a significant portion of my career in a state setting, which has informed my approach as being anti-behavioral, conscious of the impact of systems, and recognizing the importance of our upbringing in our future wellness.

All are welcome here. I am humbled you chose me as your witness! I am a trauma alchemist, transformative life coach and consultant whose client population mostly consists of (but is not limited to) Latinx and Black powerful cycle breakers. I engage in transformational work with survivors of childhood trauma, toxic friendships, mother-daughter dysfunction, father wound, poverty trauma, spiritual abuse, and imposter syndrome, immigration/acculturation & gaslighting. Trauma manifests in many forms including: anxiety, depression, hyper-vigilance, codependency, people pleasing, self-criticism, and difficulty regulating emotions. I am love, a mothering and caretaker archetype. My clinical approach is varied— I am trained in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Motivational Interviewing and Solution-Focused Therapy. I use all modalities based on the client’s needs and goals. I center people’s experiences and their interactions within systems of oppression. I provide a soft space for clients to land to unpack and process. I believe everyone deserves a sacred space to feel accepted, grow, and thrive. As an inclusive and affirming clinician, I am committed to journeying with you, as we tap into what makes you feel alive, vibrant and at home in yourself. In this journeying of being and embodiment, you will experience clarity, and let go of what is no longer serving you.

Hi there! My name is Reese Minshew, and I work almost entirely with transgender (broadly defined) adults who have had traumatic (broadly defined) experiences. I’m licensed in California, Illinois, and New York, and work via telehealth with people located in any of those states. Clinically, I believe that the reactions we have after experiencing trauma and stress are fundamentally adaptive to the trauma, but can disrupt everyday life. In other words, if you had a difficult experience (including chronic exposure to structural stressors such as anti-trans bias, white supremacy, ableism, etc), you might not be able to eat, sleep, focus, calm down, feel excited, or be in relationships in the way you want. Whatever reaction you’re having was very helpful to you at one time, but if it’s no longer serving you then we can work on that. Most of the time we would do this by talking about what’s going on in your life right now, and working to understand it in the context of your past experiences.
