Therapists for college students near New York, NY
Are you seemingly okay on the outside, but uncomfortable and anxious underneath? Do relationships with family, friends, or romantic partners feel stressful? Perhaps you are struggling to figure out your path in college or after graduation? It’s really hard to navigate relationships and decisions for yourself now, for the first time! I believe college and your 20s are the most important time where you can shape your future by learning about yourself. Often, you grow up not really knowing you are and who you want to be, and feel lost when you try to figure this out. I’d love to support you as you navigate this time by really listening and understanding you, providing non-judgmental guidance and empathy, and asking you helpful questions. I focus on issues with life transitions (yes college and graduation), self esteem, anxiety, interpersonal conflict and communication, dating, perfectionism, break-ups, and stress. Common goals include reducing anxiety, finding a suitable partner, building connection, stronger communication, creating healthy boundaries, finding purpose/career, managing life transitions, and increasing coping skills and confidence. My clients don't fill empty spots! This is my passion and you are so important to me; I remember details and strategize between sessions ensuring you receive the best care in return for your commitment to therapy.

Feeling overwhelmed and feel your thoughts and moods run your life? And do you feel this prevents you from living life to its fullest? I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (R) Therapist with 12+ years of experience. I can begin therapy within 1 week of your initial call! Often through sharing our thoughts and struggles with a skilled, empathetic professional, hope can be restored. Also, by learning a few key thinking strategies and other simple mental techniques, together we can reduce and eliminate the feelings of being powerless over how our minds automatically can work against us. I can help you find solutions within yourself. Stop letting more time go by in your life in which you feel you or relationship is broken! There is an easier and better way! I will work to reasonably accommodate your financial capabilities. I have evening hours as well as video therapy available!
I work with adults and teens experiencing symptoms of anxiety, depression, relationship issues, and trauma. Therapy is a space where you can develop insight into how you became the person you are, while learning to have more compassion for yourself. You can explore how to cope with life's challenges in a way that feels healthy and practical. So many of us are carrying heavy emotional burdens which impact how we show up in the world, for our families, and for ourselves. We often feel alone with our feelings, stuck in a place of shame, unsure of how to heal and move forward. I believe we are greatly influenced by our early experiences with our families and caregivers. How did those experiences mold you into who you are, and how might they be holding you back? Changing your relationship with yourself is integral to living the life you want. My work also includes helping clients to look at how their thoughts impact mood and behavior. I enjoy integrating mindfulness practices and other strategies so that clients gain practical strategies to deal with the inevitable challenges we all face. Let's move from a place of self-blame to a place of acceptance and healing. Please reach out today.
Many of the people I work with have complicated histories and families. They have struggled with relationships and symptoms of one kind or another and come to therapy to share their experiences, often for the very first time. I earned my doctorate at Rutgers University in the School of Social Work and I have been in private practice for over twenty-five years working with adults, couples, adolescents and families. I received my MSW at Columbia University and a Post Masters Certificate in Individual Therapy at Hunter College School of Social Work. I completed my psychoanalytic training at The Center for Psychotherapy and Psychoanalysis of New Jersey; I serve on the Board of Directors and Training Committee as Dean of Students and I teach and supervise psychotherapists. My approach to therapy utilizes Contemporary Psychoanalysis, Attachment Theory, Trauma Theory, Emotionally Focused Theory (EFT), and EMDR.
I provide psychodynamic psychotherapy in a multicultural context. I provide a compassionately insightful and culturally-sensitive space that allows you to attune to your inner wisdom, leading to contentment in personal and professional pursuits. Psychodynamic orientation is based on an insight-oriented approach of becoming aware of unconscious patterns rooted in our past that significantly impact current functioning in relationships, work, and recreation. I incorporate mindfulness meditation or relaxation techniques if the client prefers. My practice is exclusively telehealth-based, and research has shown telehealth to be very useful for treatment. I offer psychotherapy via a video HIPAA-compliant platform that protects your privacy and bars unauthorized access. Telehealth provides convenience for both the provider and client without compromising the quality of treatment. It is exciting to witness the ease of mental health access that telehealth provides. Now, you don't have to limit your therapist search to your local area but can instead extend it all over the state! I hold these qualifications: I have a doctoral degree (Psy.D.) in Clinical Psychology from the University of Hartford, and the program is approved by American Psychological Association (APA). I completed an internship in clinical psychology, approved by the APA. I completed a formal Post-Doctoral Fellowship in college counseling. I am licensed as a Psychologist in New York state. Jung said “We don’t get wounded alone and we don’t heal alone.” Meaning everything that is hurt within a relationship must be healed within one. As a therapist, I believe in deep relational work, whether that is in an individual setting or with a parent-child dyad/triad. I am not about “quick fixes” and believe that the best results come with time and curiosity. I work with both adults as well as caretakers of children alongside their child. I worked a significant portion of my career in a state setting, which has informed my approach as being anti-behavioral, conscious of the impact of systems, and recognizing the importance of our upbringing in our future wellness.
I am a firm believer that not all therapeutic approaches fit all. CBT, Person-Centered Therapy, and Motivational Interviewing have shown to be beneficial throughout my experience as a therapist. With this increased insight, clients can challenge these maladaptive thoughts which can lead to improvements in behaviors and positive outcomes in their lives.
College life can be exciting and fulfilling, but also may be daunting and overwhelming at times. Maintaining grades in school, navigating relationships and exploring new experiences may be a lot to do all on your own. My passion lies in helping people adjust to life transitions, and in healing from trauma. Learning what you bring to relationships due to your own upbringing and earlier experiences will help you to be more intentional in your current interactions. I also care about helping people heal what perpetuates their substance use, while working to gain coping skills, and plan for a life of recovery.
