In counseling you can also work with someone to come up with specific behavioral strategies and new ways of thinking by taking into consideration all that unique qualities that make you who you are including your beliefs, religious practices, culture and ethnicity, and traditional coping. With a wide range of clinical interventions and treatment approaches, we develop goals that are most helpful and tailored for each individual client (adult, teen, adolescent, or child), family, and couple based on their presenting concerns and needs. In a supportive and understanding environment, we can help you attain personal growth. Together with each client, we work to enhance your strengths and achieve your personal goals. Is Therapy right for me? Therapy is an opportunity for you to explore, reflect upon, and work to overcome issues or circumstances in your life with someone who can be objective yet very much invested in you becoming stronger, healthier, and happier. Counseling as a process is meant to challenge you to face and work through any difficulties you are experiencing because of either past, present, or future concerns. It is typically a weekly meeting between you and your counselor that gives you the space to have an open dialogue about what you are facing, confront your feelings in a more honest way, or to decide how you want to approach solving a problem in your life. The length of counseling is unique for each individual, depending upon on your needs and goals. Essentially, the counseling process is driven by you. We have two therapists at our facility, Bushra Husain, DSW LCSW, Maryum Khwaja, LCSW.
I specialize in supporting busy students balancing school, family, work, and personal expectations. Many appear “put together” on the outside but feel overwhelmed, anxious, or exhausted inside. If you’re navigating big life changes, feeling pressure to succeed, or struggling to ask for help, you’re not alone. My therapy offers a safe, compassionate space to explore your feelings, build resilience, and learn self-care skills to help you thrive both academically and personally.
I believe psychotherapy is a project between two people where sources of emotional pain and anguish are discovered and revisited, where what has been denied, unimagined, forgotten, or come to be unspeakable can become imagined, felt and spoken. The process generates an understanding of ourselves that is vastly more dynamic than what our relationships, politics and culture allow, leading to the easing of suffering and the creation of new possibilities. The therapy I provide is open, an invitation. There is a freedom to it that takes courage and tolerance. It can involve a deconstructive or constructive momentum where you may not necessarily be told what to say or how to feel. It is an invitation to notice what comes to mind and what does not. What can emerge in a therapy is dynamic. It can surprise, frustrate, thrill and provoke. These experiences are worked through together. As you bring yourself as fully as possible to what confuses or afflicts, I will help guide you with my understanding of the mind toward a life of growth and healing.
My goal as a therapist is to create a supportive environment for folks to explore their gender and sexuality. Perhaps you identify as queer, bi, lesbian, gay, pan, ace, trans, nonbinary, agender, poly, kinky, something else, all of the above, or nothing at all. You deserve to have a space where you can learn more about your identity without judgment or pressure. As a queer person who has sought out therapy myself, I know how challenging it can be to find an affirming therapist. Even if your identity isn’t central to your therapy goals, I will always aim to honor and validate every part of who you are in our work. My therapeutic style is collaborative and anti-oppressive. My approach is integrative, using tools from a variety of therapeutic modalities—relational, CBT, narrative, sex therapy—that are best suited to each unique client. In addition to specializing in identity, I support clients experiencing depression, anxiety, OCD, trauma, and relationship issues. My aim is to co-create a space with you that facilitates growth, emotional awareness, and authentic self-expression. Please reach out if you have any questions about my work or about therapy more generally. I'm glad that you're seeking out the care you need right now, and I hope that we have the opportunity to connect more soon.

I work with individuals, couples, and families who are experiencing anxiety, depression, interpersonal problems, and major life transitions. I am a bilingual Latinx clinician with years of education, training, and clinical experience as a psychotherapist and social worker. As a proud second-generation Latinx person, I understand the importance of respecting your unique intersectionality and the desperate need to decolonize psychotherapy. Therefore, I offer a space for you to safely explore cognitive and relationship patterns with a well-trained empathic affirming person of color. I may be a person of color trained in some of the top educational institutions, but I have never lost sight of the complex challenges we have and continue to face daily in our society. Together, we can explore the beauty and power of the unique intersectionality we each experience. So, contact me, and we can discuss the next steps. I work with Horizon Blue Cross and Blue Shield, Cigna, Oscar Health, United Healthcare, Oxford, Aetna, Optum, Headway, and Alma. Out-of-pocket and sliding scale options are available.
I am a Licensed Clinical Psychologist with expertise in treating trauma, anxiety, substance use problems, and insomnia. I also work with people experiencing life transitions, academic stress, grief, relationship difficulties, and health-related stress. I love working with students and young adults. I have extensive experience working with individuals of diverse cultural, racial, gender, and sexual identities, and I am committed to providing affirming, anti-oppressive care for all clients. No two individuals are the same, so I work with each client to understand their goals and needs for treatment. I provide cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) with integration of other evidence-based methods, such as mindfulness, values, and emotion-focused work. If appropriate to your needs, I can offer specialized types of therapy, including Cognitive Processing Therapy for PTSD, Prolonged Exposure for PTSD, CBT for Insomnia, CBT for Substance Use Disorders, and exposure therapy for anxiety disorders. I approach therapy with compassion, authenticity, and (when appropriate) a sense of humor. I see therapy as a collaborative relationship, rather than one of passive listening. If my approach sounds like a good match for you, let’s talk!
Life can throw a lot at us. You may need a space where you can lay it all out without worrying about being judged. I provide a space where you can talk/vent about stuff like depression, grief, family stress, identity issues, the everyday frustrations, and even the messy in between. Nothing is too big or small to discuss. I work with people going through life transitions, relationships challenges, the ups and downs that come with being LGBTQ+, bicultural, or even navigating racial identity. I know how important it is to feel seen and understood. I make it a priority to create space to let it all out and do not hold anything back. Therapy with me is about honesty, connection, and real talk. In our sessions we will learn to process deeply, and move forward with clarity and purpose. We will figure things out together, at your pace, you can reset, find renewal, feel empowered and more in control of you.

You are seeking therapy because you know it’s time for a change. Your anxiety or trauma have affected how you see and interact with the world, and feeling more at peace seems like a hard-to-reach place. Oftentimes, we’re our own worst critics. You may be telling yourself that you can’t meet your work or academic goals, address challenging relationship issues, or develop the self-esteem and creativity you need to succeed on your path in life. Your perspective of the world may have been shaped by childhood experiences you had little to no control over. Maybe you are a member of the LGBTQIA+ community and have lost the support of your family or loved ones due to issues related to your identity. Or perhaps you no longer know who you are anymore, don’t like who you are, or don’t know how to relate to other people. You’re here now because you’ve made the decision to become more aware of the negative self-talk that has been affecting daily functioning and ready to learn what to do with it when it comes around. In confronting your fears, and looking within yourself, you learn to understand how to make sense of the world, how to better cope with strategies and tools that are actually useful and your focus begins to shift to things that you can actually control. Seeking change is no small feat and takes incredible courage! Luckily, you don’t have to walk this path alone. Creating a safe space where you get to challenge those beliefs, invest in your well-being, and improve your overall life satisfaction is my highest priority.
Taking the step to start therapy shows incredible courage and strength, and I’m here to support you through it. I create a warm, welcoming space where you can reflect and heal, whether you're dealing with stress, anxiety, relationship struggles, trauma, or the ups and downs of life as a student. My approach is all about collaboration—working together to understand what you're going through and identifying your strengths. College life can be overwhelming at times, and therapy is a chance to unpack those feelings, make sense of your experiences, and find your way to a more balanced, empowered you. Whether this is your first time or you’re experienced with therapy, I’d love to chat and see if we’re a good fit. Let’s work together to help you navigate this chapter and create meaningful change for your future.
