Therapists for college students near New York University
I’d like to take this opportunity to introduce myself. My name is Mike Jaros, I am in my last year of graduate school at the University of Buffalo getting a Mental Health Counseling license. I am currently a School Counselor with over six years of experience. I am a member of the LGBTQ+ community, a husband, and a father to a pre-teen son that we adopted at birth from California. I have worked in education for the majority of my career and I am excited to continue on my path in Mental Health as a Therapist-In-Training here at Sol Health. My approach is client centered and I have training in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy and Dialectical Behavioral Therapy. As a School Counselor I have many years of practice in Solution Focused Brief Counseling. I want to assist my clients in navigating life’s challenges with compassion, insight, and evidence-based care. Whether you are experiencing anxiety, depression, relationship struggles, or simply seeking greater clarity and connection in your life, my goal is to provide a safe, supportive space where you feel heard, understood, and empowered. It is my goal to normalize seeking support with a therapist for your own mental health. I will tailor each therapy session to meet your unique needs and goals. I work collaboratively with clients to explore their thoughts, emotions, and behaviors and to help clients develop resilience, improve emotional well-being, and achieve personal growth. Whether you are facing a specific concern or seeking overall self-discovery, I am committed to guiding you toward healing and empowerment. I look forward to working with you on your own mental health journey. Michael Jaros is a therapist-in-training at Sol Health. Many of the students I work with describe feeling anxious, overwhelmed, or “stuck,” like they’re doing all the right things on paper but still struggling underneath the surface. They might overthink, hold themselves to very high standards, or find it hard to quiet their mind. Others come to therapy because they’re having trouble managing relationships, navigating big life transitions, or coping with perfectionism and self-doubt. In our work together, we focus on understanding what’s driving your anxiety or stress, learning practical tools to manage it, and developing a more balanced and compassionate relationship with yourself. My approach blends evidence-based strategies (like CBT, ACT, and DBT) with a warm, relational style so therapy feels both structured and genuinely supportive. Whether you’re dealing with anxiety, OCD, burnout, or the pressures of being a student in a fast-paced world, therapy can help you slow down, build clarity, and reconnect with yourself in a way that feels more grounded and confident.
Have you ever felt isolated or like no one truly understands you? If so, know that you’re not alone in these experiences, and I’m here to listen and support you. My name is Elvis, a second-year master’s degree student in the Social Work program at Montclair State University. I also received a BA in Psychology, with a double minor in Child Advocacy & Policy, and Social Work. I identify as a heterosexual, hispanic male. In our sessions, we’ll work together to develop customized strategies that support your emotional well-being, help you manage any psychological challenges, and enhance your daily life. We’ll focus on creating practical tools tailored to your needs, such as self-care routines, mindfulness practices, and grounding techniques, to help you navigate new stressors and experiences. We may also explore past or present traumas, childhood experiences, or current situations that are affecting your day-to-day life, aiming to provide you with a comprehensive and personalized approach to healing and growth. My theraputic approach is grounded in the psychodynamic, CBT, and DBT theories. I strive to create a comfortable environment where you can express yourself openly. Together, we’ll work on identifying what’s going on in your life and develop practical strategies to help you manage and overcome obstacles. My goal is to make our sessions straightforward and relatable, without any confusing jargon. Elvis Auqui is a therapist-in-trainging at Sol Health. Sol Health is a digital health startup that offers $30 therapy to Gen Zs by connecting them with therapists-in-training accuring clincial hours.
Hi ! I am Samah, a South Asian therapist originally from India. I specialize in working with students, including international students, people of color, and immigrants who are navigating not just academics, but identity, belonging, and the pressure to succeed. As an immigrant myself, I understand how cultural expectations can affect us and manifest as beliefs, patterns, and behaviors that may not serve us; therefore, we will navigate these concerns together in a way that allows you to uphold your cultural values while building a strong sense of self. I understand what it’s like to begin this journey away from family, balancing the guilt of leaving loved ones behind while trying to build a new life. It can feel like you’re living between two worlds: holding onto your cultural identity while also trying to adapt, grow, and find your place in a new environment. This experience can bring up feelings of isolation, anxiety, and self-doubt, even when things seem to be going well on the outside. In our work together, I aim to create a space where you feel seen, understood, and supported as your full self. Whether you’re struggling with anxiety, self-esteem, academic pressure, or questions around identity and family, we can explore these challenges at your pace and help you feel more grounded and confident in who you are becoming.
I am a Licensed Clinical Psychologist with expertise in treating trauma, anxiety, substance use problems, and insomnia. I also work with people experiencing life transitions, academic stress, grief, relationship difficulties, and health-related stress. I love working with students and young adults. I have extensive experience working with individuals of diverse cultural, racial, gender, and sexual identities, and I am committed to providing affirming, anti-oppressive care for all clients. No two individuals are the same, so I work with each client to understand their goals and needs for treatment. I provide cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) with integration of other evidence-based methods, such as mindfulness, values, and emotion-focused work. If appropriate to your needs, I can offer specialized types of therapy, including Cognitive Processing Therapy for PTSD, Prolonged Exposure for PTSD, CBT for Insomnia, CBT for Substance Use Disorders, and exposure therapy for anxiety disorders. I approach therapy with compassion, authenticity, and (when appropriate) a sense of humor. I see therapy as a collaborative relationship, rather than one of passive listening. If my approach sounds like a good match for you, let’s talk!

Reach out and let's see if we are a good fit.

With warmth, curiosity, and a touch of humor, I offer a supportive, judgment-free space where you can feel truly heard. As a former student-athlete at the University of Pennsylvania, I understand the weight of high expectations and draw on that experience to help clients build confidence, resilience, and inner calm. I love working with young adults in college and beyond navigating anxiety, depression, self-esteem, relationship issues, and making career decisions. My integrative approach combines psychodynamic therapy, CBT, IFS, ACT and mindfulness to meet each person’s unique needs. Grounded by time in nature and meaningful connection, I’m here to support your growth into a version of yourself you feel proud of.
The way we think about ourselves and the world we are in greatly influences our feelings and actions. If we take the time to consider other alternatives, we might be able to see events from a more helpful perspective, and with practice, engage in more beneficial behaviors. I enjoy making my clients be active participants in their journey towards emotional wellness. My clients are the experts on their own life, and my job is to help you come to discover what is best for yourself. I acknowledge the intersectionality of everyone’s identity to create a welcoming, healing environment to all of my clients. I specialize in working with adolescents, emerging adults of color from the LGBTQ+ community, and work with clients who are experiencing anxiety, depression, relationship issues, coming out, and life transitions. Exploring therapy does not make us "crazy" as many of us might've heard at one point or another. Give yourself the opportunity to be in a supportive space in which you are able to untangle your thoughts and emotions; where you are heard and validated. Let's pave the way towards the creation of healthier coping mechanisms and emotional wellness together.
You know how sometimes we examine our situation and wonder how it is that we got here? There's so much going on in the world today. In examining our current state we can experience a mixture of emotions: fear, frustration, and a longing for something different. This is normal. However, sometimes these feelings can become more overwhelming than we would like, and they begin to affect us in different areas of our life such as work, family, and relationships. If you are struggling with anxiety or dealing with a major event in your life, I can help. You have choices when it comes to your career, relationships, and family. I will speak with you openly about your feelings and help you to gain new perspectives and solutions. I work closely with people facing various challenges, including how to deal with grief, a complicated relationship, family, academics, and societal problems. My approach to healing combines traditional therapies with holistic approaches, while drawing on the individual’s spiritual practices and developing new coping strategies.
Hello, I'm Dr. Clifford (please feel free to call me Heather!). I bring a compassionate and a caring approach to therapy that is trauma informed and queer affirming. The transition to young adulthood can be a time of major changes, successes, and disappointments. The pressure of being a young adult and figuring out "the future" is often overwhelming and anxiety provoking. You may be questioning your values, sexuality, relationships and career aspirations. I specialize in helping college students explore the thoughts, feelings, and behaviors that are getting in the way of them living a life that is in line with their values. Through our work together I can help you clarify what is important to you and develop skills to help you live the life you choose. I use evidenced based approaches like Cognitive Behavioral Therapy and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy to help support you become present and participate in the important parts of life. I often incorporate mindfulness and compassion focused exercises during sessions. I am committed to unlearning oppressive biases and beliefs including but not limited to white supremacy, racism, ableism, homophobia, and fatphobia. I believe that these systems of oppression hugely impact our mental health and come to play in the therapy room. I am always open to discuss and explore these topics.

Are you struggling with anxiety or depression? Are you proud of your achievements but still feel there is a disconnect between how you want to live your life and how things are shaping up for you now, almost like you are watching a movie or living someone else’s life? It can be hard to even start a conversation about how to alleviate the way you’re feeling, when you are unsure about how the disconnection occurred and what exactly the disconnect is. I’m here to help you figure that out. I am passionate about empowering clients to figure out their own unique truth, joy, and fulfillment in life. Therapy can be the space for you to do exactly that. Sometimes the anxiety or depression we face is a symptom of a disconnection from our deeper selves, so a large focus of my work with clients is to empower them to find their voice, their truth, and to deepen their sense of congruence. I was drawn to therapy from my prior career having seen firsthand the enormous value therapy can bring us in improving both the quality and enjoyment of our lives. My approach is supportive, curious, and collaborative so that you can explore your experiences in a safe and culturally sensitive environment. Every client’s needs are completely unique, and no one is defined by their symptoms or challenges, so I adapt my approach based on your goals and objectives. I believe that honesty and directness are essential skills for therapists so that our clients can recognize patterns that don’t serve them well. I will share the truth of what I’m seeing with kindness and respect. Sometimes this means exploring uncomfortable experiences or feelings, and I will be your partner as you come to a deeper understanding of these experiences, and free yourself of their hold on you. I invite you to start by imagining what the best outcome could look like for you, and we will go from there.
