Therapists for college students near New York University
Hi, I’m Donna Deming, LCSW, a clinical social worker in New York offering online therapy state wide . I work with college students and young adults who may be struggling with anxiety, stress, relationship issues, self-esteem, body image concerns, academic pressure, life transitions, loneliness, or feeling overwhelmed. College can be exciting, but it can also feel stressful, isolating, and emotionally exhausting at times. Many students struggle with overthinking, comparison to others, pressure to succeed, family stress, social anxiety, or uncertainty about who they are and where they’re headed in life. My approach is warm, supportive, and nonjudgmental. I want therapy to feel like a safe place where you can talk honestly about what you’re going through while also learning practical ways to cope, manage emotions, and build confidence. Together, we can work on developing healthier coping skills, improving relationships, managing anxiety and stress, strengthening self-worth, and helping you feel more emotionally grounded and supported. Reaching out for help can feel difficult, but you do not have to figure everything out alone.
A warm and compassionate space for you to feel, express, process & move through your emotions. I believe that therapy should be as unique as you are. There isn't a one-size-fits-all approach. Each session is tailored to consider the many dimensions of who you are, embracing a holistic, whole-person perspective. While many say it, I truly mean it. My practice integrates traditional talk therapy with somatic (body-based) approaches to offer you a comprehensive path towards healing.
Therapy is a unique experience and I believe that we as humans are most balanced when we feel safe and understood, non-judgmentally. As a bilingual therapist (English and Spanish), I strive to ensure that clients are provided the space to effectively express themselves in a way that makes sense to them. I have years of experience working with college students like you who may be feeling overwhelmed with the load of academics, expectations, and also trying to maintain a social life and practice self-care. Sometimes, just having a neutral person to talk to is all you need. My approach to therapy is prioritizing your needs and personalizing sessions to reflect that. Specifically, the therapeutic styles that I utilize are Person-Centered, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, and Motivational Interviewing. I believe that therapy is done at your pace. Ultimately, therapy is about recognizing that your mental health matters (just as much as physical health) and valuing the process to get there.
Finding a therapist you connect with can be difficult. I spend time with my clients creating a nonjudgmental environment where you can be heard and validated. I bring warmth, humor, and commitment to each one of my clients. I believe that therapy is a place where you can grow and make new meaning out of your experiences, even through situations which can cause great distress. My main areas of focus are with individuals, and couples, who want to work on issues related to LGBTQ+ and multicultural issues, relationship concerns, and trauma, with a specialty of sexual assault and intimate violence. I also offer therapy to work on issues related to anxiety, depression, as well as overall adjustment concerns. My approach is collaborative and together we will set up a treatment plan embracing your individuality to help you reach your goals. I look forward to hearing from you.
Oh college, it's "supposed" to be the best days of your life...whoever came up with that needs a serious reality check. I've been through it and have also worked with enough college students, young adults, and adults of all ages to say that for many of us, that statement is completely false. So please know that if you find that these are not the best days (or even if you feel that these are the worst days), you are not alone. There is nothing "wrong" with you and I am here to help. I unfortunately don't have a magic wand to transform your college experience into something you see in the movies, but I provide a combination of medication management and brief supportive therapy (a fancy way of saying I include some therapy during our 30 minute medication follow up appointments) that can help address concerns like depression, anxiety, obsessive thoughts, and mood disorders. I’ll work with you to create a personalized plan that meets your unique needs and helps you achieve your mental health goals. Talking about medication can be daunting. When I prescribe it, my goal isn’t to change who you are, but to help you rediscover what life can be like when your symptoms are managed. While medication won’t solve every issue, it can be a powerful tool alongside therapy and lifestyle changes, enabling you to reclaim your ability to thrive.

Hello! I specialize in providing art therapy and talk therapy services to help students navigate their mental health journey in a safe and supportive environment. I understand that students face challenges such as academic stress, relationship issues, family conflict, anxiety, and depression during their college years. I offer both art therapy and traditional talk therapy to cater to individual needs. Through art or verbal expression, students can gain insight, develop coping skills, and work towards healing and growth. If you're seeking a creative and holistic approach to mental health and well-being, I am here to support you on your journey towards healing and self-discovery.
College can be an exciting time, but it also comes with unique pressures: academic stress, big life decisions, changing relationships, and figuring out who you are and who you want to be. If you’re feeling overwhelmed, stuck, or unsure, you don’t have to go through it alone. I’m Erin C. Hayes, a Licensed Clinical Social Worker with a Master of Science in Social Work from Columbia University. My passion is helping young women tap into their strengths, build confidence, and navigate challenges such as anxiety, depression, eating disorders, and other emotional or medical stressors. I often use Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy (CBT), which focuses on reshaping unhelpful thought patterns so you can feel more in control of your emotions and actions. I also integrate other approaches when they’re the right fit because therapy should feel personal, and not a one-size-fits-all. I believe our past experiences shape how we see ourselves, but they don’t have to define our future. In our work together, you’ll find a supportive, judgment-free space where you can be heard, gain clarity, and move forward with resilience and self-assurance. If you’re ready to explore your potential and create a future that feels true to you, I’d be honored to support you on that journey. <script src="https://thrivingcampus.com/verified.js?pid=41620"></script>
When things are difficult, it can isolate us, drain our emotional reserves, and limit our ability to look at things in new ways. I work to help clients appreciate the depth of their experience, and support them toward personal strength and healthier relationships. My style is open, collaborative, direct, and supportive. I am a licensed clinical psychologist with over 20 years in private practice. I also served as adjunct faculty at the University of Rochester's Counseling Center for many years. I bring a range of approaches, but tailor my work to the specific needs of each client. My specialties include issues of loss and trauma, depression, anxiety, medical concerns, life changes, ADHD challenges, LGBTQ+ support, and stressful family or workplace relationships. Many of my clients work in arts-related or other creative fields. I look forward to meeting you!

One of my favorite things a patient has said to me is - “Thank you for being part of my journey”. That’s what life is to me – a journey we are all on together. What I want for everyone is that they can overcome any barriers they may have so that they can become their whole selves and live life to its fullest. I work with many kinds of people from all walks of life on issues like neurodiversity, autism, anxiety, ADHD, family history, relationships, and couples’ concerns. I also have expertise working with college students, international students, young adults, and couples after working and training at the University of Rochester counseling center. I have done training specifically to provide therapy through an anti-racist lens and continue to reflect on my own whiteness. I use a mixed relational approach pulling from person centered therapy, existential therapy, DBT and more. I am committed to providing a safe, sex positive, non-judgmental space for trust and growth to happen. Are you looking for change?
