My name is Courtney and my focus in my counseling work connects with guiding individuals to rediscover their sense of self when facing challenges. It's common for anxiety, depression, shame, and guilt to emerge during difficult times, especially times of life changes, and if this resonates with you, you are not alone. I am dedicated to offering supportive reflection and compassionate listening, empowering you to tap into your inner resilience, strengths, and sense of purpose. I specialize in working with individuals (16+) experiencing symptoms of anxiety and depression, and with those who are experiencing difficulties with life transitions, self-esteem, and stress. I have specific experience working with individuals who identify as lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and queer (LGBTQIA+), and I also provide EMDR therapy. I strive to create a safe and supportive environment where we can address past challenges, current stressors, and concerns about what's next. My goal is to empower you to embrace your true self, listen to your inner voice with kindness, and cultivate deeper connections through vulnerability. You've worked hard to get where you are. On the outside, it looks like you have it all together- but inside, the pressure, the self-doubt, and the endless expectations can feel overwhelming. If you're feeling stuck, questioning your worth, or struggling to balance success with well-being, you're not alone. High-achieving individuals often face these challenges in silence, but you don't have to. This is where our work together begins… At Manning Psychological Wellness, I help ambitious individuals and students to navigate challenges including anxiety, stress, self-esteem, perfectionism, burnout, and life transitions. We will work together to help you gain clarity, and develop strategies that support resilience and growth- academically and personally.
I am a New York–based Licensed Mental Health Counselor who works with college students and young adults navigating anxiety, stress, emotional overwhelm, adjustment concerns, and life transitions. Many of the students I work with are high-achieving and capable, yet feel stuck in their heads, unsure of themselves, or emotionally reactive under pressure. Therapy can be a space to slow things down, make sense of what’s going on, and learn how to respond rather than just react. My approach is collaborative, practical, and grounded. I combine insight-oriented therapy with skills-based strategies such as emotion regulation, mindfulness, and anxiety management tools that can be used in real-life situations—academics, relationships, family dynamics, and identity development. I tailor therapy to each student’s individual needs, goals, and pace, with attention to how stress and life experiences impact emotional well-being. Before becoming a therapist, I worked in other high-pressure environments, including Division I collegiate athletics and business settings, which informs my understanding of performance stress, identity shifts, and transition periods. In early sessions, my focus is on getting to know you, helping you feel understood, and offering feedback and tools you can apply outside of sessions. Whether you’re feeling overwhelmed, stuck, or simply looking for clarity, therapy is a collaborative process, and I look forward to working with you.

Therapy approach A relationship between you and your therapist is a primary ingredient fostering meaningful change and personal growth. My approach is warm, open, and empathic. I listen deeply and engage actively as is helpful. My goal is to create a space where you feel safe to be your authentic self, free from judgment. You decide whether this is a comfortable setting for you to grow. I am a psychotherapist (LCSW) with a PhD and advanced training from a four-year psychotherapy institute. While I have had the privilege of working with individuals across the lifespan, a majority of my clients have been college age through young career adults. They come from diverse cultural, gender, ethnic, religious, and spiritual backgrounds. I have supported them through challenges such as anxiety, depression, trauma, grief, often related to issues of this age group: life transitions, family issues, career decisions, dating, parenting, identity, and loss. I draw from a psychodynamic perspective to understand your unique story, while incorporating therapeutic approaches that seem to us to be most helpful for you. Therapy focus I see therapy as a journey we take together. You bring your unique situation and goals. I provide travel skills based on having taken journeys with others. I have never, however, been to your desired destination. You determine the direction and duration of therapy; only you can decide what to focus on and when you feel ready to move forward. While present-day concerns may be paramount, exploring your past can provide valuable insight into your current situation. I interact with you to ensure I understand what you are saying and to help you more fully express your thoughts and feelings. I use a variety of techniques to assist in therapy including role play, homework, journaling, naming aspects of the self, labeling thoughts that are helpful or not to increase your skills in desired areas and decrease those that prevent progress to your goal. All feelings including tears, anger, joy, and laughter can be part of our work together. Communication style I like a relaxed atmosphere that allows us to communicate easily. I am curious. I like to listen. I like to smile but I am also serious. I reflect back to you what I think you are telling me, ask some questions to ensure that I more fully understand what you are saying, encourage you to delve deeper, and wonder with you about when your goals and your actions do not seem aligned. I get to know you not only by what you say but by feelings that may emanate from you. I am comfortable with a broad range of feelings. I support strength and empowerment. I encourage you to let me know what interaction with me is helpful to you and what is not helpful. My goal is to offer a compassionate, thoughtful space where you feel heard and supported. Therapy Goals My goal for you is that you can live fully in the present, understand aspects of your past as they impact the present, and move forward on a path that is best for you. You can let go of people, situations and thought patterns that are not helpful. You can seek and find people and situations that will support you. You can find satisfaction in life and laughter even though everything will not be perfect and parts of life could remain difficult. Our first session After an initial conversation to help us get to know each other, our work together begins. You share the concerns that brought you to therapy, current life situations, and relevant history. I seek to understand what you are telling me as you begin to develop goals for therapy. You let me know how I could be most helpful to you. We begin to explore avenues to your goals and how to measure the progress you seek. This conversation expands over sessions as you feel more comfortable in therapy and as aspects of your life become clearer to you. At the end of this initial session, you can assess whether we could work well together.

My clients describe me as warm, thoughtful, and easy to talk to. My goal is to make therapy a place where you feel safe showing up exactly as you are, messiness and all.

As a therapist, I will focus on your strengths and resilience, trust you to be the expert of your own experiences, and provide a warm and supportive environment to freely explore your thoughts, feelings, and desires for change. Due to the coronavirus, my practice is telehealth only. Connecting with a laptop , ipad or phone is easy. I work best with persistent persons wanting a better quality of life. Because it can be difficult to seek help, I provide psychoeducation about therapy to clients and am forthright and supportive. So if you are feeling anxious or sad, have worries, or are worried about social, attention or homework skills, I am able to help. Clients who are motivated to do better and want relief from school, social and family stresses can benefit from my approach to therapy. It is important to remember that each person is an individual who has his or her individual concerns. My approach is focused, following a cognitive-behavioral orientation. I work with a wide range of and have an understanding of the unique culture of colleges and universities. Individuals seen in my practice are generally anxious, stressed, panicky and dealing with life circumstances. I enhance skills through university teaching and professional writing. Treatment emphasizes coping and problem solving skills, which are tools used when formal therapy has ended. One should acquire the ability to see alternatives so problems become less overwhelming and more manageable. As someone who is teaching college students online, I have an understanding of the pressures and stresses that come with the logistics of navigating online instruction. The college students seen in my practice report anxieties related to multiple personal/social, academic and work demands as well as the changes in daily life due to the coronavirus
