Taking care of your mental health is one of the most compassionate things you can do. Expected, even positive life transitions tend to cause some level of stress and resistance. Those stressors can force us to operate in extreme ways causing experiences of fear or uncertainty, dissatisfaction in relationships, or an erratic relationship with food. Most clients I see are high achievers, perfectionists or people pleasers; To the average eye, they appear as though they have everything yet, they are struggling inside. These are people seeking change but are often fearful of what that will entail or where to start. I have spent 10+ years as a clinician, providing safe spaces for teens and adults to let their experiences be heard. I believe you're the expert on your own life however I can help you learn self-trust, regulate your emotions, release painful burdens, & build authentic relationships. I'm well-versed in IFS, Intergenerational, Relational & Trauma therapies. I’ve been described as “conversational” and “non-judgemental”. I use practical, therapeutic modalities, to help you build vital skills and create a life in line with your values. Like the Hummingbird, you will learn to be adaptable, have the stamina for whatever you come across, as well as honor and find joy in the small things. Start your journey today and set up a free 15-minute consutation.

I provide individual therapy, consultations, neuropsychological assessments, and group-based services for children, teens, and adults. Across services, I offer personalized, compassionate care and help individuals and families harness sources of strength and resilience. Throughout this process, clients are better able to handle and cope with difficult circumstances in a busy world. More specifically, I use evidence-based approaches, such as CBT or Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, to help clients address concerns and make changes that improve quality of life across contexts, including relationships with family or friends, school or work experiences, and overall wellbeing. Implicit to my practice is the belief that each one of us possesses the emotional wherewithal and many of the skills needed to navigate life’s journey; sometimes we just need to gain additional perspective and access workable strategies to move forward.

Clinical Social Work/Therapist

I have worked with Princeton undergraduate and graduate students for many years and understand well the many and varied challenges which students may face; in fact, my MSW field work and my first job were at Princeton's Counseling Center. Many of my clients share a need to explore familial relationships to understand their behavioral patterns and how to make those patterns healthier. My approach ranges from DBT and mindfulness work for anxiety and depression to the traditional psychodynamic and interpersonal therapy. I am also a psychoanalyst, trained at the New Jersey Institute for Psychoanalysis. Among the various issues I treat are anxiety, depression, trauma, life transitions, grief, behavioral patterns, and academic stress.

Although I am a licensed therapist with 30+ years mental health experience, my counseling practice is designed for people looking for a different approach, rather than traditional therapy. I offer life mentoring, which is a mix of counseling, coaching, psychotherapy, spirituality, and the expressive arts. I specialize in helping people with anxiety, depression, and PTSD. I help clients process their past, learn how to live more fully in the present, and carve a path toward a dynamic, enjoyable future. Life mentoring is a wisdom tradition that leads to life transformation. My practice is very casual and easy-going, nothing clinical. I teach the practices outlined in my book: “The Living Stress Free Bible: 20 Techniques to Make Your Life Less Stressful.” I send summaries of each session to each client, with my insights and suggested resources/homework. Schedule a session with me in our peaceful office space located in Rochester’s Upper East End, or on Zoom. I would love to help you on your personal journey toward happiness and inner peace. Pricing is based on duration of the session. Insurance is not accepted.

I am a licensed mental health counselor and provide both in-person and virtual visits for adults in New York State. We are experiencing challenging times. The effects of the COVID-19 pandemic are numerous and have created a long lasting crisis situation that is exacerbating depression, anxiety, feelings of fear and hopelessness, and triggering unhealthy regressive patterns and behaviors. It has placed stress on marriages, partnerships and families, and has left us feeling disconnected, frustrated and fearful. We are also experiencing a massive shift in our paradigm regarding race and ethnicity, which necessitates a different therapeutic consciousness that is more holistic, and that includes the issue of how racism and inequality affect mental health. As we navigate the “new normal,” it’s important to have a supportive space that can help define issues that are problematic so we can adjust accordingly to the harmful effects of the current crisis. In addition to treating mood disorders and trauma that affect daily functioning, as a relationship therapist, I believe the foundation of all relationships begins with the most important relationship of all – the one you have with yourself. Perhaps the life you have is different from the life you desire. If so, we will focus on core issues that might be preventing you from living that life. Some of the challenges you might be facing at this time include: Toxic/unhealthy dynamics in families of origin. A lack of strong role models. The search for a partner who more closely fulfills your needs. The decision of when/if to start a family. A career that means more than just a paycheck and allows you to live up to your full potential and desires. Unexpected health challenges. A nonconforming identity. We will not only address symptoms. We will examine the changes you want to make to live a more fulfilling life.

Life has a way of throwing challenges at us when we least expect it. At times we can easily overcome the barriers but for the other times we may need to reach out for support. Therapy can offer a safe, non-judgmental place to help us decrease emotional stress, better understand our past, and help us to develop tools to move forward. I'm a licensed Creative Arts Therapist with 9 years of clinical experience and specialize in the treatment of trauma, depression, anxiety and stress, LGBTQIA+ issues, identity and self-exploration. I strive to be genuine, developing positive relationships so I can be a partner in your healing process. In my 9 years of practice working with many different people with a large variety of diagnoses, I have come to individualize treatment utilizing a variety of techniques including talk-therapy, non-verbal therapies (EMDR), and art-based techniques. The path to healing is not straight and can feel like an impossible task, but we do not have to walk alone. The human body has incredible power to recall difficult memories, bury negative thoughts, and to remind us of unfinished business. However, the body can also heal itself given the right environment. Together we can journey towards health and happiness.
