Welcome to Encourage-ment Counseling for Connection, Healing, and Change At Encourage-ment, we help individuals and couples find hope, strength, and clarity through compassionate, expert care. Our practice specializes in three key areas: couples counseling, gambling addiction recovery, and trauma-informed therapy. Life can present challenges that feel isolating and overwhelming. Whether you're struggling in your relationship, battling the cycle of gambling, or working through the impact of trauma, we’re here to walk with you—at your pace, with respect and empathy. **Our Areas of Focus:** * **Couples Counseling** We support couples facing conflict, communication challenges, trust issues, or emotional disconnection. Our work centers on helping partners rebuild connection, improve understanding, and create stronger, healthier relationships. In addition to resolving immediate relational concerns, we help couples navigate the natural seasons of life—including marriage, career changes, aging, and loss. We also provide support for parenting challenges, helping couples stay united as they raise children, balance responsibilities, and manage stress. Whether you're new in your relationship or decades in, our goal is to help you grow together with resilience and compassion. * **Gambling Addiction Recovery** Gambling struggles can feel hidden and difficult to talk about. We provide a safe, nonjudgmental space to explore the emotional roots of gambling, develop healthier coping strategies, and rebuild your sense of control. In our work together, we focus on practical tools such as budgeting, financial planning, and managing urges to gamble. Just as important, we support clients in rebuilding trust with loved ones, repairing the emotional and relational damage often caused by gambling behavior. Healing includes both personal accountability and restoring connection—and we’re here to guide you through every step of that process. **Trauma-Informed Therapy** Trauma affects how we feel, think, and relate to others. We offer gentle, focused support using evidence-based approaches—including Accelerated Resolution Therapy (ART)—to help clients process distressing memories and sensations in a way that promotes rapid, lasting relief. ART uses guided imagery and eye movements to shift how trauma is stored in the brain, helping clients feel calmer, more in control, and better able to move forward. At Encourage-ment, we believe real healing begins when you feel seen, heard, and encouraged. Whether you're navigating relationship difficulties, addiction recovery, or the effects of trauma, we’re here to help you move forward—one step at a time.

🎓 You Don’t Have to Figure It All Out Alone College can be exciting—but also overwhelming, confusing, and sometimes lonely. If you’re feeling anxious, burned out, unsure of who you are, or just stuck, you’re not the only one—and you don’t have to go it alone. 💬 What We Talk About Students I work with often share: Academic and social anxiety Burnout and perfectionism Identity questions around gender, culture, or sexuality Family and relationship struggles That lingering “What’s wrong with me?” feeling 🌱 What to Expect I keep things warm, open, and straightforward—no psychobabble. We’ll move at your pace, and talk about what matters most to you. This space is about feeling heard, not judged. ✨ Why You Might Feel at Home Here You don’t need to be in crisis to start therapy. If you’re thoughtful, curious, or just tired of keeping it all in—this could be the support you’ve been looking for.

Talking about your feelings can be incredibly hard to do, especially in a fast-paced life where emotions feel like they can get in the way. I work hard to build a warm, emotionally-safe space in therapy in which you can share and explore your thoughts and feelings at a pace that challenges you, but doesn’t feel overwhelming. Utilizing cognitive behavioral, family therapy, and mindfulness interventions, I help patients to increase awareness and improve their relationship with their emotions. Whether you’re just curious or feeling ready to work on your emotional wellbeing, I’m glad that you found me. I’m always excited to support someone in taking better care of themselves!

I work with clients to establish a treatment plan that is uniquely sensitive to their particular clinical needs and concerns. Some of the most common techniques I employ focus on the important relationship between body and mind; these experiential, somatic, and cognitive interventions allow for critical shifts in perspective that promote meaningful and enduring behavioral change.

People come to therapy for many different reasons, but, at the core, they are looking for understanding, relief, or growth. Maybe you’re trying to understand why you feel the way you do, or you find yourself caught in the same difficult thoughts again and again. Perhaps you’ve noticed patterns of behavior that seem to work against your own well-being. You might be facing a life transition—chosen or not—and are feeling anxious about what’s next. Or maybe you just feel stuck. Therapy offers a space to slow down and make sense of what’s happening. Together, we can clarify your current experience, explore how you got here, and begin to shape a healthier, more fulfilling path forward.

Welcome to the Awareness and Wellness Center (AWC)! My name is Amy Mintgomery and I am a professional counselor in Pennsylvania providing in-person and online counseling. I have been providing therapy services for adults struggling with a range of issues including substance use disorders, problems with self-esteem, anxiety, depression, relationship challenges, grief/loss, as well as anger/stress management problems and more. I have gained this experience working in a variety of therapeutic settings including long-term residential, inpatient and outpatient agencies. For 18 years I worked in the Student Life division of a local university. I worked primarily with student organizations in organizational development. I helped the young adult population of the university develop self-efficacy and to better manage stress. More recently I worked in both inpatient and outpatient settings for substance use and co-occurring disorders. In therapy, I use a person-centered approached utilizing cognitive-behavioral and solution-focused technique. My approach is to provide a soothing space and offer the environment you need to talk through life’s challenges. “Life on life’s terms” can be complicated and everyone needs a place to process difficulties. My hope is to be part of your “We” so that you have the professional support needed to begin to work through challenges and find solutions to better manage stress and the emotions connected to that stress.

I specialize in the treatment of anxiety and stress reduction, but also help people with: anger, depression, phobias, OCD, addiction, PTSD, relationship difficulties, spiritual/existential crises, panic attacks, ADHD, chronic medical conditions (gastric, migraines, tinnitus, POTS, etc.), and many other problems. Very often, symptoms and issues overlap and are correlated. When you work with me, we will collaborate to focus on the challenging areas of your life, manage stresses from your environment and body, and develop strategies to overcome unhelpful patterns of thought and behavior. Through this work it will be possible to experience relief, become happier, and evolve as a person. While I prefer to see clients in my office, I also provide online therapy on a HIPAA compliant video platform. When we first meet, we'll discuss your history and your concerns. We'll articulate goals for your treatment and establish a clear direction aimed at the outcomes you are hoping for. It will also be an opportunity for you to ask questions and feel comfortable in the work we will soon embark upon.

Hi! I'm from Pittsburgh and proud to be practicing in my home town. Therapy ranges from directive to less structured approaches. Directive approaches involve identifying a specific problem and starting interventions including skill building for the client. Less directive therapy involves self exploration and understanding our symptoms in an interpersonal context. These two approaches can be combined, tailored to the client. The client's responsibility is committing to therapy, and showing up weekly at the designated time, and engaging in the process. While the therapist is an expert in psychology, the client is an expect in themselves and is ultimately the source of change and improvement. I see myself as a guide, helping the client see things they may have missed or avoided, and making connections that wouldn't otherwise be obvious. The process is collaborative and frequently rewarding.

I specialize in working with late teens (16+) and adults navigating the transition into independence, identity, and adulthood. This stage of life can feel overwhelming—whether you're managing anxiety, adjusting to college or post-grad life, struggling with relationships, or feeling stuck in uncertainty about your next steps. Many of my clients are high-functioning but internally overwhelmed—balancing expectations, pressure, and major life changes while trying to figure out who they are and what they want. I provide a supportive space to slow things down, build insight, and develop practical tools to aid you in your journey. I strongly believe that we must take time to nurture our emotional and mental well being just as we do with our physical being.

Hello! My name is Christy Nyakana, and I have been a licensed therapist for 19 years. I graduated from the University of Pittsburgh with my Master of Social Work degree in 2003. Since then, I have been very fortunate to work with amazingly diverse and ever-resilient clients. I have provided therapy in psychiatric inpatient settings, schools, community mental health clinics, Dr.’s offices, private practice, and military bases. Currently, I provide online teletherapy through a HIPAA compliant platform. I have significant experience with adjustment issues, mood disorders, depression, anxiety, trauma, women's issues, military culture, and pre/post-surgical bariatric counseling. I am an LGBTQ+ informed therapist who is knowledgeable about the kink and polyamory/ENM community. Additionally, I take diversity and racism seriously. I am a supporter of LGBTQ+, BLM and Women's Rights. Although I cannot claim to know firsthand how unsafe--and unseen--many marginalized people feel, what I can guarantee is, that when you are talking with me, I will do everything I can to help you feel safe and accepted, regardless of our differences. I recognize that life circumstances can be challenging, unexpected, confusing, and leave us feeling overwhelmed and not understood. It can be helpful to talk with someone who has the experience and compassion to help you discover the best path to meet your personal goals. I am committed to providing therapy that is always positively focused and encourages self-acceptance. Learning to focus on our strengths to make healthy choices physically, mentally, emotionally & spiritually are all part of long-term health and success. Hopefully, that is something I can help you with!
