*ACCEPTING CLIENTS FOR JANUARY 2025.* I am a licensed Clinical Psychologist, and together, we can explore how your past experiences have shaped who you are today. You will gain self-understanding, self-compassion, and begin to feel happier and more fulfilled. My clients are individuals and couples with a wide variety of concerns, including relationship issues, anxiety, grief, depression, and trauma. I can help you navigate unwanted emotions and get you ready to cope with any difficult life circumstances that might arise in the future. My past clients have described me as “non-judgmental, kind, and someone who calls them on their bullshit.” I also love working with people in non-traditional relationships as well as LGBT individuals and couples. I also specialize in transgender-affirmative therapy, and have worked with trans and non-binary clients who are questioning gender, people who are in the middle of a physical and/or social transition, and individuals who are either post-transition or have made other decisions in this regard. Even if your gender identity is not the topic you want to explore in therapy, I will provide an accepting environment where you can explore whatever you think will be most useful. If this sounds like what you are looking for, please email me to set up a 20-minute phone conversation so we can see if we would be a good fit.

I am a Licensed Mental Health Counselor in the State of New York and is currently in the process of receiving my PhD in Mental Health Counseling at Pace University. I recognize that each individual is unique and is the expert in their own life. I utilize a person-centered approach focusing on key components of positive psychology and cognitive mindfulness techniques to help foster resilience when facing adversity. I believe the most important way a person can be fully themselves is by building a trusting, empathetic, and compassionate relationship between a client and a therapist. My therapeutic work focuses on helping clients gain insight into their thoughts, better identify emotions, and empower clients to make more mindful decisions for themselves. I am passionate about helping children, teens, and adults navigate their lives. I utilize creativity and mindfulness with my clients and incorporate stepping outside of the box to provide clients the opportunity to freely express themselves while learning healthy ways to communicate their emotions. My motto comes from my Great Aunt Mary: “Wherever you plant her, she will grow” This is the motto that I hold for all of my clients, wherever life might take you, you have the ability to grow to your full potential, even when planted in adverse and challenging environments. Every garden needs support to grow, let me be your support along your journey!

I believe the most important foundation in therapy is the relationship between therapist and client. The therapy relationship can be a safe place to practice new skills that you are hoping to bring back to the rest of your life. My goal is to help you to feel safe during your time with me, so that you can explore yourself, your challenges, your strengths, your history, and anything else that is important to you. I also hope to help you make the changes that you would like to make in your life. Maybe you can feel better than you do now. Maybe you can learn more skills to cope with what feels hard. Maybe you need to be heard and validated. Whatever brings you to therapy, I’m here for it.

I take a collaborative, student-centered approach, helping you build practical skills to manage stress, improve your mental health, strengthen relationships, and stay aligned w/ your goals and values. You can be surrounded by people and still feel completely alone. Maybe you grew up keeping the peace, managing everyone else's emotions, or shrinking yourself to avoid conflict, and now those same patterns are running your life. You overthink, you people-please, you second-guess yourself constantly. You are self-aware enough to know something is not working, and awareness alone has not changed it. These patterns have roots. Family wounds, early trauma, relationships that taught you it was not safe to be yourself. Insight goes a long way toward naming them and stops short of loosening them, which is not a failure of effort on your part. I use Accelerated Resolution Therapy, an eye movement therapy that works on the physical charge attached to a memory rather than the story about it. You do not have to describe what happened out loud. Most people notice a shift within one to five sessions, and I offer ART both in weekly therapy and as a single longer intensive session for students who want to resolve something specific without a semester-long commitment. I am also trained in EMDR and use a person-centered, strengths-based approach throughout. If you are ready to stop going through the motions and find out who you are when you are not managing everyone else, I would like to hear from you.

My approach centers on engaging in self-discovery and awareness of your thoughts, feelings and behavioral patterns. This internal world influences anxiety, depression, mood stability and reactivity. Therapy is where you can take the time to get to know more about yourself and ways to build helpful self-care practices. Many of my clients come to therapy struggling with persistent self-doubt, critical inner narratives, as well as the weight of expectations around identity, achievement, and emotional expression. These expectations can distort our sense of self worth, making it challenging to define and meet important self-growth goals. Together, we can work to intuitively explore what may be contributing to these challenges, current belief systems and behavioral patterns. I value a conversational approach to therapy, where you can feel open in expressing your thoughts, concerns and internal narratives in order to ultimately choose if they are still serving you or it may be time for change. How we speak to ourselves matters; it not only affects our mood but also our motivation, behavior, and ability to connect with others. When we cultivate an intentional internal dialogue that aligns with our values we can begin to unlock a greater sense of autonomy and capability. This process leads to lessened anxiety, greater self confidence and acceptance.

Whether you're worrying often, struggling with relationship stress and conflict, needing to process traumatic events, or wanting to experience a more loving sense of self, beginning therapy can be anxiety-provoking and takes courage. I hope to make your experience a little easier by listening with compassion and curiosity, moving at your pace, and centering the therapy around your needs. Do others describe you as overachieving, self-reliant, perfectionistic, or Type-A? Do you struggle with creating enough balance in your life? Do you lose track of your needs & desires, and then find yourself feeling burnt out or resentful of others? We will work together to help you feel more grounded and centered, develop effective communication skills, set & maintain boundaries that feel good, experience greater compassion towards yourself, and feel more connected to others. We can work through whatever barriers are getting in the way of creating more play, softness, love, rest & support in your life. I am trained in psychodynamic therapy & mindfulness-based somatic therapy, two powerful ways of working that promote greater awareness, connection, and sense of freedom. I welcome you to reach out for a phone consult & we can feel into if we're a good fit to work together.
