Therapists for college students near New York University
My therapeutic approach is catered for each client. For those with anxiety disorders, I use evidence-based approaches, including cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) and exposure and response prevention (ERP) to help my clients learn about the intersections between thoughts, feelings, and behaviors. Much of therapy includes learning and trying out new ways of thinking, utilizing coping skills that emphasize regulating your nervous system, and safely exposing yourself to anxiety-provoking things in order to overcome your fears. For clients who have experienced trauma and interpersonal/relational challenges, I use trauma-focused CBT and psychodynamic therapy with an attachment lens. I aim to support my clients in processing their experiences, reclaiming their narratives, and connecting to their values. I want to help my clients gain insight on root causes of distress, while also helping them explore how to engage in interpersonal relationships in healthier ways. My style is warm and collaborative. In session, I try to balance insight-oriented and skills-based approaches. I am active in teaching and helping clients develop new, healthy coping skills, in order to deal with stress better. I integrate feminist and multicultural approaches, and strive to help explore the impacts of oppression, privilege, and societal expectations, on mental health.
Welcome! Today is a really big day for you. You have made a decision to make a change in your life for the better. You are to be congratulated and supported for this. I bet it wasn't easy getting here. Making these changes can get very complicated along the way. Are you ready to take the necessary steps to be the change you are looking for? Do you want to exceed your own expectations in your life? Are you focused, humble and willing to consider the thoughtful input of others in order to achieve your goals? If your answer is "yes" to these questions - then let's begin! One thing to consider... nothing changes if nothing changes. The way we live our lives is completely based on the way we perceive it. This statement is the bedrock foundation of my counseling practice. With each area of assistance I offer, the rewards of mindfulness, empowerment and ultimately self-realization are the goals to be pursued. Everything we do in our life IS a choice. We can choose to be empowered or not.
Bussey Holistic Therapy is founded on the premise that all human beings have an innate desire for balance, healing, and growth. How each person defines these concepts are individually unique. I view each client as a whole person–mind, body, and spirit. I meet each client where they are in order to help them meet their personal goals. As a therapist, I am here to partner with you on your journey. Although life has the potential to be joyful and fulfilling, at times we all face challenges. This is part of the human condition and none of us is immune. While we may generally have the resilience to cope and to move through difficult experiences, there are those times when we become aware that additional support and resources may be helpful in navigating difficult circumstances, healing from painful experiences from the past; or when we become aware of thoughts, feelings, or behaviors that we would like to address in order to live a richer life. Therapy can be a constructive resource offering a safe space to heal and grow.
The focus of my work is helping young people, adults, and couples respond to and manage feelings that negatively impact life, relationships, and work. I have successfully helped many young adults work through and solve problems coping with transitions and life adjustments. As a clinical social worker and psychotherapist in community mental health settings in NYC and the Hudson Valley, I have helped people experiencing acute symptoms of anxiety, depression, and post-traumatic stress, among other problems. I specialize in supporting people in their relationships with others but also with themselves. My clinical work focuses on addressing emotional needs and how these are expressed outwardly but also implicitly, in ways that often go unnoticed. My therapeutic approach is influenced by both psychodynamic psychotherapy and emotionally-focused therapy, two experiential techniques in which I have begun training. I specialize in supporting people in their relationships with others, but also with themselves. Often, it is helpful to center emotional needs. Together we will explore how these needs are expressed outwardly, but also implicitly, in ways that often go unnoticed.

If you are seeking to gain deeper insight into your patterns of behavior, strengthen your relationships, and create meaningful, lasting change, you have come to the right place. I work with young adults, adults, and couples with specialized experience in treating anxiety and mood disorders, trauma and PTSD, OCD, as well as interpersonal and relational challenges. I believe therapy should be personalized rather than “one size fits all.” Therefore, building trust and cultivating a strong therapeutic relationship are central to my approach. Drawing from attachment-based and psychodynamic perspectives, I help individuals understand how past experiences shape the present. I also integrate skills from evidence-based treatments, such as Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR), and Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), to support emotional regulation, interpersonal effectiveness, cognitive flexibility, and behavioral change. I earned my Doctorate in Clinical Psychology from Ferkauf Graduate School of Psychology at Yeshiva University and a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology and Mental Health Studies from New York University. I completed my pre-doctoral internship at Mount Sinai Services/Elmhurst Hospital, where I received intensive training in providing individual and couples therapy for a wide range of mental health concerns, and my post-doctoral training at the Center for Anxiety, a private practice setting where I deepened my expertise in evidence-based treatment. My prior clinical training includes placements at Weill Cornell Medical Center/NewYork-Presbyterian and the Parnes Clinic, where I specialized in the treatment of anxiety, OCD, trauma, and relational challenges. My doctoral research examined the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on mental health severity, further strengthening my commitment to understanding how individuals adapt and recover in times of crisis. In addition to my clinical work, I serve as a supervising psychologist, supporting the professional growth and development of emerging clinicians. Patients often describe me as warm, compassionate, and collaborative, while also appreciating my honesty, directness, and willingness to challenge unhelpful beliefs.I ask thoughtful, meaningful questions designed to foster insight and help individuals better understand their internal experiences. Hi there! I provide a warm yet challenging relationship to support you in becoming stronger, calmer, and more clear about who you are. I use mindfulness, body awareness, and curiosity to help you develop lifelong skills.
I work with clients who may be struggling with anxiety, depression or trauma related to their relationships, career, stressful events, or family. During our initial sessions, we will delve deeply into the issues at hand, and collaborate to create a plan for addressing them in a way that helps you get your life back. Most of my clients see a gradual lifting of symptoms within the first month and sustained improvement thereafter.
Sometimes life's challenges require additional tools. I am a board certified Psychiatric-Mental Health Nurse Practitioner with a Master's Degree from Molloy University. I have over a decade of experience in this field and over two decades as a Nurse Practitioner in Adult Health. As a teammate in your wellness journey, I work closely with your counselor and health care providers to optimize mental and physical health outcomes. I see you as a whole person and incorporate your whole social, physical, and emotional well-being into our plan to guide you to wellness. Medication and psychotherapeutic modalities are utilized as needed to help you achieve your goals. Patients should be ages 18+, in the active care of a Primary Care Provider, and willing to utilize the patient portal. Unfortunately, I do not participate with Medicare or Medicaid even if it is managed by one of the plans listed at this time.
Life has many challenges. It's how you grow from your past that defines who you are in life. You may feel alone, misunderstood, and unfulfilled with your life or personal relationships. Perhaps you're having intense negative emotions. People typically enter therapy when they are in distress, although it's usually the long-term and underlying struggles that concern them the most. Initially, we will work quickly to address your immediate pain and provide relief. As therapy progresses, our focus may shift so you develop more positive and enriching relationships with yourself and others. My goal as a therapist is to provide a safe and compassionate environment where you can recognize your potential and live a meaningful life. I use evidenced-based therapy that focuses on the dynamics that impact your daily experience. We look for the behaviors, attitudes, and patterns that protected you in the past but no longer serve a purpose.
