Therapists for college students near New York University
Hello, my name is Ari. I'm a native New Yorker whose passion for psychiatry started early on and has grown through years of experience in healthcare. I specialize in medication management for ADHD, anxiety, depression, PTSD, and OCD, and also provide brief supportive therapy around personal challenges like relationships, self-esteem, and sexual health. My approach is grounded in inclusivity and affirmation, shaped in part by my own experiences within the LGBTQ+ and BIPOC communities. I focus on helping people work through uncertainty and doubt, with the goal of opening up space for clarity, growth, and possibility. Outside of work, I love to exercise, travel, read, and get lost in a good movie.
Life has the tendency of becoming overwhelming, especially when tasked with managing school, work, and your personal life. Talking it out provides an outlet that helps in easing the worries you might be experiencing. Everyone has personal struggles and being able to open up about it in a safe space allows us to navigate and cope with the circumstances. My name is Fabiola and I’m a second year Master’s student in the Mental Health Counseling program at Queens College. I received my Bachelor’s in Psychology at the City College of New York. My focus areas include depression, anxiety, major life changes and transitions, self care, and relationships. My therapeutic approach is grounded in client-centered and CBT theories, while also utilizing interventions from other theories that best fit your needs. My goal is to create a safe and secure environment where you feel encouraged to speak freely and work on problem solving and better understanding your challenges. Fabiola Leonardo is a therapist-in-training at Sol Health. Are you a resilient person who is struggling? Have you lived through a recent traumatic event or had a stressful childhood, and find yourself frequently stuck in self-destructive patterns and relationships? Is adjusting to college life causing you to feel anxious, depressed, or overwhelmed and just plain burnt out? Or have you experienced a sexual assault and don't know how to deal with it? Adjusting to college is a significant life transition and it's not always clear what to do next. Finding confidence in your own voice and abilities, and clarity about your own needs can be difficult when you've been through stressful experiences. I'm here to guide you back to yourself, offer you some coping skills, help you clarify your life direction and reach your goals. I specialize in working with professionals in the performing arts and other creative fields, as well as those who want to enter them. I also work frequently with people in the helping professions and social justice oriented fields. My approach is informed by my own life experience as a former professional dancer in the American Ballet Theatre, and by the study of meditation and yoga. I have been in the social work field since graduating from Hunter College School of Social work 2004. In addition to talk therapy, I use mindfulness techniques like meditation, guided visualizations, as well as attention to body sensations to help you identify and begin to move through where you get blocked. I am also trained in EMDR and utilize that technique to help people heal from trauma and other stressful experiences. **Will be out of office July 11-.**
I love the privilege of working with creative, insightful individuals looking to better understand themselves. This highly personalized process is one of the best efforts any of us can make for our health. "It was what I was born for—to look, to listen, to lose myself inside this soft world." —Mary Oliver, "Mindful"
Psychotherapy serves to help people alleviate suffering and develop the capacity for new, positive experiences. Suffering comes in various forms, including anxiety or fear, depression, family and interpersonal conflict, or poor self esteem. Often we operate based on patterns outside of our awareness that were learned in childhood and may no longer be useful to us as adults. By bringing these patterns into one's awareness, we can work to identify and explore new, desired ways of relating to oneself and one's environment. My approach to treatment is holistic and collaborative, as I tailor my practice according to the wants and needs of each individual. Through empathic listening and supportive feedback, I utilize a strengths-based approach to create a safe environment that encourages the process of both acceptance and change. We will work together to explore and understand individual changes you would like to make in order to reduce suffering, increase insight, and generally improve quality of life. Therapy is a strong investment in self, and I encourage you to contact me with any questions or issues you might like to explore.

I have years of experience in practicing within the Hispanic/Latinx population. I received my masters from Touro College and have experience working with a diverse population of race, ethnicity, gender, and orientation.
We are a group of like-minded therapists who understand what it’s like to live in today’s world. We connect with you to create a collaborative therapeutic partnership to help you navigate life’s challenges. Our therapists bring authenticity, expertise, and a whole lot of emotional intelligence to each therapy session to help you live your life in alignment with your values.
My goal as a therapist is to create a supportive environment for folks to explore their gender and sexuality. Perhaps you identify as queer, bi, lesbian, gay, pan, ace, trans, nonbinary, agender, poly, kinky, something else, all of the above, or nothing at all. You deserve to have a space where you can learn more about your identity without judgment or pressure. As a queer person who has sought out therapy myself, I know how challenging it can be to find an affirming therapist. Even if your identity isn’t central to your therapy goals, I will always aim to honor and validate every part of who you are in our work. My therapeutic style is collaborative and anti-oppressive. My approach is integrative, using tools from a variety of therapeutic modalities—relational, CBT, narrative, sex therapy—that are best suited to each unique client. In addition to specializing in identity, I support clients experiencing depression, anxiety, OCD, trauma, and relationship issues. My aim is to co-create a space with you that facilitates growth, emotional awareness, and authentic self-expression. Please reach out if you have any questions about my work or about therapy more generally. I'm glad that you're seeking out the care you need right now, and I hope that we have the opportunity to connect more soon.

Welcome to my practice! My name is Nick and I am a licensed mental health counselor, credentialed alcohol and substance abuse counselor, and board certified telemental health provider. All services are offered online only. Most of our suffering derives from within. Imagine if you talked to a loved one the way you talk to yourself, or if someone spoke to you the way you speak to yourself. It would be unacceptable and it would not be tolerated. Yet we surrender to these thoughts, repeating the same hurtful, debilitating monologue in the echo chamber of our mind. Herein lies the certainty that derives from being on your own, stuck in a position you never reasoned yourself into in the first place. As you develop an awareness of these thoughts that have so greatly affected your life, you’ll learn how to develop a new, more rational narrative based on the values and beliefs that you yourself will create. As your therapist, my job is to navigate this process as you learn to actively change your thoughts, which change your feelings and impact your actions. I am a firm believer in achieving functionality. We want life to work for us, and not against us. Being a flawed, living, breathing human being, I too struggle with this everyday, and I bring that intense desire to make things work in the therapeutic relationship. We work together to solve the ambivalence. It is understandable that when it comes to our motivation to change, we have our ups & downs. I know what it feels like to be stuck. It’s painful, and when you’re in it, you think it will never end. The good news is that it does, and the process of seeing that end can be so much better having someone that understands you by your side, every step of the way. So are you ready to get started?
Entering your next level of education is a wonderful thing yet even good things can be stressful or scary. This is especially true in the current climate of Covid-19. Whether it's about school or something else in your life, there's a strength in knowing that you need help with it, as evidenced by you're being on this site. I'd be happy to talk for 15 minutes by phone or video and then, if you like, we can set an online appointment.
Have you ever felt out of control? Struggled with drugs, alcohol, disruptive behaviors, or anger that seems to take over? If you're ready to make meaningful changes but aren't sure where to start, I'm here to help. I'm Rahim, a Mental Health Counselor Intern specializing in helping individuals overcome substance use, anger management issues, disruptive behaviors, career challenges, and performance stress. My ideal client is someone who's tired of feeling stuck and is ready to develop practical strategies to regain control of their life, improve relationships, and build a more fulfilling future. My counseling approach integrates evidence-based methods like Strengths-Based Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, and Solution-Focused Therapy to help you identify triggers, develop healthy coping skills, and harness your innate resilience. As a Behavioral Health Program Manager and soon-to-be graduate of John Carroll University's Clinical Mental Health Counseling program, I bring both professional training and cultural awareness to our sessions. I create a judgment-free space where teens and young adults can work through challenges while feeling truly heard and supported. I understand taking that first step can feel daunting, but you don't have to face these challenges alone. Whether you're dealing with substance use, disruptive behaviors, anger, career transitions, or overwhelming stress, together we can develop the tools you need to create lasting positive change. When you're ready to start building a stronger, more confident version of yourself, I'll be here to support you every step of the way.

Meaningful relationships help maintain mental and physical health and can be an antidote to stress. When our core relationships are struggling or when we're struggling to build core relationships, the stress and loneliness can permeate all aspects of our lives. Relational stress and loneliness are reasons many people seek the support of a therapist. Through therapy, clients can explore relationship patterns and barriers preventing them from making and maintaining meaningful and warm connection with others. Treatment can include treating symptoms of social anxiety, exploring discomfort with intimacy, navigating conflict, setting boundaries, and voicing needs. In addition to individual therapy, family and couple therapy can provide insight into system dynamics. Clients learn to recognize and change negative cycles and build deeper and more positive bonds. If you are dissatisfied with your relationships and are ready to work toward change, meeting with a therapist is a great place to start. If you’re not sure if individual, couple, or family therapy is the right choice, a free consultation with a therapist to discuss options can be helpful. If you think I might be a good fit, please reach out.
