I work primarily with college students and young adults experiencing anxiety, OCD, perfectionism, and general life stressors. I have many years of experiencing working at different universities in the Pittsburgh area, which is helpful to my work with students as I am particularly knowledgeable about resources, common stressors students at each school experience, and how best to navigate university systems when you are struggling emotionally. I am experienced in supporting international, BIPOC, and LGBTQIA+ students. I have a warm, conversational style, and am adept at helping students gain skills and discover tools for managing their emotional struggles at the pace that works best for them.

Hi. I am a licensed clinical psychologist with nearly 25 years of experience. I specialize in supporting college students during times of change, challenges, losses, or mental health symptoms. I strive to help students better understand and navigate their experiences and make meaningful changes. I support self-compassion, perspective taking, discovery, and skill development. I’m flexible in my approach, and believe in personalizing scientifically proven methods to best fit your needs. I also can help you clarify, or confirm a diagnosis (i.e., label), of your mental health experiences. As an Interpersonal Therapist (IPT), my approach is a great fit for college students, who often face major transitions and challenges during school and emerging adulthood. For some students, we also focus on building healthy daily routines. Life changes can throw off routines, especially things like sleep schedules, which can worsen mental health symptoms. I help students create routines that support their well-being.

I empower individuals to discover their resiliency, harness the energy of their anxiety in productive ways, and better manage negative unhelpful worry thinking. Anxiety results in the space between overestimating the probability of danger AND underestimating your ability to cope with it. My philosophy for healing is that everyone has strength and resiliency to cope with much more than they could imagine, and through therapy you discover those strengths and how to implement them. I have worked with hundreds of clients in 15+ years as a licensed therapist. Having been an active duty military spouse for 20 years, I have been licensed in 6 states and have vast experience providing therapy to diverse populations in numerous settings with various needs. This led me to a path of focusing more on primary anxiety conditions (such as general anxiety, panic, phobias) to secondary anxiety (from ADHD, autism, sensory integration) to justifiable external stressors (for example, societal, environmental, financial). I use research-proven Virtual Reality Immersion Therapy (VRIT), biofeedback, mindfulness, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) techniques, Solution-Focused Therapy techniques, and other evidence based models to help clients face fears and anxieties in customized imaginal and constructed virtual environments while teaching the coping skills of mindfulness, thought restructuring, and regulating body sensations. I offer weekend and evening hours, as well as the option for secure messaging and video contact between sessions for established clients. College is an exciting time, but it can also bring its fair share of stress, uncertainty, and challenges. You might feel anxious about the future, overwhelmed by responsibilities, or unsure of how to navigate the changes happening in your life. These feelings are completely valid, and you don’t have to face them alone. I specialize in somatic approaches to therapy, which help bridge the connection between your mind and body. This work supports you in building a sense of psychological safety from within, leading to greater confidence, emotional regulation, happiness, and self-assurance. Together, we’ll create a space where you feel seen, heard, and supported. In therapy with me, we’ll take the time to explore your unique needs. I’ll bring empathy, patience, and affirmation into our work, and we’ll collaborate on equipping you with tools to achieve your goals. Whether you’re navigating emotional ups and downs, seeking clarity about your future, or simply needing a space to process everything, I’m here to walk with you on this journey. If you’re new to therapy, I understand it can feel like a big step. I’m happy to answer your questions and help you feel comfortable with the process. As a young adult, you often wonder what can be done to help yourself feel better. You have tried many things yet there has been little to no lasting improvement. You know that you have great potential to do great things but the way things are going, your future looks bleak. Seeking help can be scary, because you want to make sure that you have someone but feel scared about taking the risk of letting anyone in. I thoroughly enjoy working young adult clients. This stage of life is filled with change, exploration of self, and forging of independence -- this can also mean that it's not always easy to ask for help, and a degree of hesitancy exists to allow even the most loving family members and friends into their worlds. I regularly work with clients that are struggling with major life transitions, depression, anxiety, or eating disorders. My clients are often seeking safety, understanding, and freedom from their negative thoughts. The foundation of my approach is person-centered and humanistic. I believe in the healing nature of the therapeutic relationship and a non-judgmental space to process life experiences.

Therapy is a process. When looking for a therapist, you want someone who can see your goals and provide insight into how they can become reality. Therapy isn’t something that you can just come into one session and be magically healed. When I say therapy is a process, I mean, that therapy comes with challenges, but also rewards. If you can be completely open and honest in this process, I can promise that I will not only work to be a guiding light in this fog you are walking through, but also someone who is going to challenge you and help you bring your inner dialogue out. When I am working with a client, I will bring strategies that you can implement, challenging questions, and overwhelming support. There are going to be days where you may feel like giving up on your ideas, dreams, or passions but I want to remind you that resilience isn’t just about being able to take pain, but resilience is fighting for a future you want. I work with a multitude of specialities including beauty standards, colorism, stress from the political climate, trauma responses, parenting and how your childhood impacts this, social anxiety. Some of the specialties that I focus on are Beauty standard/colorism. We live in a society where European standards seem to be the beauty standard but beauty comes in different shades as well as different shapes. It’s not society‘s job to tell you what makes you beautiful, it’s your own job to remind you that you are beautiful the way you are And how you interpret that in your day-to-day life. Identity also plays a part in my specialties. Being a biracial woman myself, I hold space for Multiple aspects of identity. Every person you know has intersectional pieces of their identity and what I work on is understanding those pieces and how they work to frame your decisions, choices and life. Working through trauma experiences can be difficult. Things that you may not even think to be triggers such as certain sounds you hear, a song that plays at a restaurant, or even the smell of a cologne can completely change your mood. I specialize in working through trauma experiences due to incest. Especially if these experiences are continuing to impact you through the role of a parent. As a parent, you’re already going through mental gymnastics, whether or not you should let your kid out to be at a sleepover party or finding that they have a group of friends that were similar to yours as a kid. Rather than internalizing these fears, I want to create an open discussion where we can process your feelings and thoughts, give you validity to your emotions, but also give you the better understanding that all these emotions still impact your child. Lastly, in the climate that we’re in, politics should not be an issue we avoid. Whether you are on the right or left side, there are things that are happening in current news today that may be impacting you emotionally, financially, and maybe even physically. As your therapist, I’m here to not only just listen to you but also give you the chance to have your voice heard even if you have family with opposing views, friends with opposing views or even neighbors. The therapeutic process does not need to be one that is shortened by fear. Coming into a therapy session, I want you to feel like you have room to talk and that someone is actually listening. This isn’t just an hour of your time that you hope your therapist is making it a safe space but it’s an hour of your time that you were working towards a goal, something that you want in life. I don’t want to just create a safe space for you, I want to help you create a space where your inner thoughts can be heard, validated and respected.
