Therapists for college students near 19122
I work to empower students to thrive while navigating the transition to college and beyond. This includes support with building confidence and resilience, managing stress, anxiety, and depression, and helping create a positive college experience. I create a warm and open environment to address issues and create lasting change.
I have 4 years experience as a therapist. For 2 years I worked as a group therapist on a young adult inpatient unit, 1 year in addiction, and about 2 years in private practice. In this time, I have tried to expose myself to as much diverse needs and populations as possible, because I enjoy learning and growing into what I can best do for my clients. I mainly use CBT and DBT as my approaches in sessions. However, I adjust to best suit what the client's needs are. Whether that be attachment-based, motivational interviewing, etc.
In working with you, my goal is to help you improve your overall sense of well-being, improve your relationships and address life's challenges with greater self-assurance and ease. While we can't change difficult situations of the past, we can work together to better understand and resolve challenges in the present. By applying complementary therapy approaches and techniques, we will address what may be holding you back from experiencing life with greater joy and ease.
I am a Licensed Professional Counselor in the Greensburg/Latrobe area with over 13 years of experience. I have worked with a wide range of adolescents and adults with various diagnoses including anxiety, panic, depression, suicidal ideation, non-suicidal self-injury, life transitions, grief and loss, family conflict, and chronic health issues. My primary treatment modalities include CBT, client-centered therapy, ACT, and solution-focused, however I tailor the therapeutic process to meet the individual needs of my clients. I believe that you are the expert of your story and that you have many strengths that will assist you in overcoming things that challenge you. It takes courage to seek out a more fulfilling and happier life and to take the first steps towards a change. I am here to support & empower you in that journey.
Maybe chronic stress, anxiety, or trauma has your nervous system stuck on high alert, so that even when life is relatively stable, you don't actually feel that way. Maybe your past experiences show up now as hypervigilance, tension, irritability, insomnia, or shutting down. Maybe you're managing burnout, depression, relationship struggles, or patterns you just can't seem to shake. Maybe you're tired of merely surviving and ready to actually feel different. With a background in social justice, many of my clients are queer, activists, neurodivergent, and others for whom identity/politics/systemic context are part of their story. We start by helping your body feel safer through various approaches such as biofeedback, breathwork/meditation, or the Safe and Sound Protocol so your nervous system doesn’t have to work so hard. From there, we look deeper at the patterns, relationships, and stories that shaped how you move through the world. We explore what matters to you at your own pace. Our work together isn't about fixing what's "wrong" with you. It's about understanding what has happened to you, how you've adapted, and finding out what is possible when we have more awareness and more options. My approach is a deeply relational one. You're the expert on your own life and I'm here to serve as a supporter and collaborator in the process.
Many of the people I work with are the ones everyone else assumes are doing just fine. You're successful, capable, and driven—but underneath the surface, you may be carrying anxiety, burnout, trauma, perfectionism, or ADHD. High-performance people often feel like they're constantly trying to keep up. Whether you're navigating the demands of academia, an intellectually challenging career, or family dynamics, therapy can be a place to slow down, reconnect with yourself, and find a different way forward. My approach is collaborative, curious, and grounded in evidence-based care. I integrate EMDR, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), Motivational Interviewing, and neuroscience-informed interventions to help clients better understand the connection between their thoughts, emotions, nervous system, and behaviors. Together, we'll identify patterns that no longer serve you, strengthen emotional flexibility, and develop practical tools that support lasting change. Before becoming a therapist, I studied Applied Physics and Engineering and later conducted doctoral-level research in Computational and Integrative Biology. That background continues to shape my work today. I enjoy helping analytically-minded people make sense of complex internal experiences. I create a space that feels warm, genuine, and free from judgment. I believe healing happens when insight is paired with self-compassion and meaningful action.

These are words that past clients have used to describe my personality and approach. I approach every client with universal acceptance and non-judgment. I also help couples who are struggling to connect/reconnect. Life sure can be a big struggle. Let me help you deal with what is thrown at you and turn life into what YOU want it to be! Kindness, compassion, empathy and acceptance are my biggest strengths as a therapist and I would be honored to share that with you. I can be your friendly face and help you change the path you’re currently taking

I'm a licensed psychologist specializing in trauma, anxiety, depression, body image, and disordered eating. If you're ready to move beyond the surface, therapy can be a space to get curious and explore the parts of your experience that often go unspoken. Going deep means making room to understand the patterns that have shaped you and discovering new ways of relating to yourself and others. We'll explore both your past and your present with the hope of helping you better understand yourself and create meaningful change. I bring my authentic self into each session and encourage you to bring your full self as well. I believe the therapeutic relationship can be a powerful part of the healing process, and I welcome honest feedback about our work together. I'm attentive to the nuances of identity and committed to integrating a social justice approach into my work. Therapy can be a process of healing and transformation, with challenging moments along the way. I'm honored to join you in this process and work through those moments together. Prior to Forward Wellness, I was a staff therapist at CaPS at Carnegie Mellon University.

Hello there, Feeling stuck? Feeling stressed out about all the things that are competing for your attention? Wanting to change your relationship with yourself, so you can spread your wings and soar? I'm Stefan (he/him) and I want to be there on your journey. Starting therapy can feel scary, even if you've been in therapy before! To lower that intensity a bit, I want you to give you an idea of how I show up to sessions: - I get to know you - your family, friends, hobbies, shows, loves, fears, passions. - I celebrate and hype you up when you do the hard thing. - I ask questions to get you curious about patterns in your life, and point out when you might not be aware of them. - I offer compassion when your mind creates judgments about yourself. - I welcome and ask for feedback, knowing some things will land and others will not. - I laugh with you and value humor. - I tear up when you feel hurt or uncover a tender spot (while also holding space for you to feel). - I'll tell you I'm proud of you. - I nerd out about mental health, skills, approaches, and explain concepts in a way you'll understand. - I slow down and speed up based on your cues, and I give you choice in how we go about sessions. - I'm always working on our relationship, so there's trust and security when we get to difficult things. - I acknowledge the bigger systems of oppression that affect your life and lives of your loved ones. - I'm active and dynamic in sessions - sometimes asking questions, leading an activity, listening and reflecting, interrupting to highlight something you said, and synthesizing information and summarizing it back to you. All of this "I" is the effort I put into helping you get to "you": what you want, what you care about, your goals, dreams, your emotions, stressors, internal talk, and who you want to become and how you want to show up in life. Specialties: queer and trans identities and lived experiences, anxiety and depression, perfectionism, substance use, navigating family dynamics, healing trauma, couples and relationship work, career discernment Approaches: Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR; trauma approach), Internal Family Systems (IFS), Gottman Method (for relationship work), mindfulness and somatic interventions I'm an associate counselor, seeing clients through telehealth in Massachusetts, Pennsylvania, and California. Welcome to the Awareness and Wellness Center (AWC)! My name is Amy Mintgomery and I am a professional counselor in Pennsylvania providing in-person and online counseling. I have been providing therapy services for adults struggling with a range of issues including substance use disorders, problems with self-esteem, anxiety, depression, relationship challenges, grief/loss, as well as anger/stress management problems and more. I have gained this experience working in a variety of therapeutic settings including long-term residential, inpatient and outpatient agencies. For 18 years I worked in the Student Life division of a local university. I worked primarily with student organizations in organizational development. I helped the young adult population of the university develop self-efficacy and to better manage stress. More recently I worked in both inpatient and outpatient settings for substance use and co-occurring disorders. In therapy, I use a person-centered approached utilizing cognitive-behavioral and solution-focused technique. My approach is to provide a soothing space and offer the environment you need to talk through life’s challenges. “Life on life’s terms” can be complicated and everyone needs a place to process difficulties. My hope is to be part of your “We” so that you have the professional support needed to begin to work through challenges and find solutions to better manage stress and the emotions connected to that stress.

I enjoy helping clients identify healthy, sustainable boundaries for their life, work, and relationships. I seek to work with clients holistically and collaboratively, creating practical goals for lasting change. I use a variety of evidence-based therapies to address anxiety, depression, OCD, and insomnia, including CBT, CBT-I and ERP. I also specialize in working with clients on understanding and setting healthy work-life and relationship boundaries, managing stress, improving executive functioning, and processing life transitions. It is my goal to help you experience freedom, hope and lasting change. Therapy works not only because of scientific evidence, it also works because it's a relationship. And while relationships can break, they can also heal. I would love to hear your story, your hopes, your truth. Let's walk together on this healing journey.
You are surrounded by people and still doing this alone. That is one of the most common things students bring me: a full schedule, a workable GPA or a funded assistantship, and a quiet sense that the path you are on was chosen for you rather than by you. Sometimes it shows up as anxiety that arrives before every deadline. Sometimes it is a loss you never had room to grieve because the semester did not stop for it. Sometimes it is the question you cannot safely ask your advisor, your parents, or your cohort without it costing you something. I spent 24 years in higher education before I became a counselor. I was an undergraduate and a graduate student, a program coordinator, an assistant professor, and a state extension specialist at Penn State and Ohio State. I know what comps do to a person's sleep, what it is like to change direction three years into a degree, and how hard it is to find someone who understands both your field and your wellbeing. I went back to school part-time for five years while teaching, parenting two young kids, and holding a marriage together, and I founded AutumnSpring Counseling® for people in exactly that kind of transition. My work sits at the intersection of grief, career, and mental health, because those three rarely travel alone: a change of major is also a loss, and a career decision is also an identity question. I am Joshua A. Kirby, LPC, CCC, GC-C, a Licensed Professional Counselor in Pennsylvania with national certification in career counseling and grief counseling. I practice Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, which is present-focused and built on clarifying your actual values and acting on them. Sessions are direct and structured. Expect honesty, not just an hour of agreement. My office is in The Allenway Building on South Allen Street, walkable from campus, with a private waiting room and a separate exit. Telehealth is available throughout Pennsylvania, and I am also registered to see clients located in Delaware, Florida, Idaho, Montana, South Carolina, and Vermont, which matters if you go home for the summer or study away. AutumnSpring Counseling® is a private-pay practice and does not bill insurance, so there are no coverage limits, no insurer-required diagnosis, and no plan administrator shaping your care. Current rates and payment methods, including HSA and FSA cards, are listed at autumnspring.co/fees. If you want to find out whether we are a good fit, the next step is a no-cost consultation call. Read more at www.autumnspring.co, then email josh@autumnspring.co or call 814-826-3737.
