Therapists for college students near Portland, OR
A therapist that’s warm, direct, and deeply curious. Maybe you grew up in an environment where you had to stay on guard. Maybe you've experienced abuse, violence, betrayal, loss, or events that changed the way you see yourself, other people, and the world around you. Over time, those experiences affect us and change us in ways that last longer than the experience itself. You might find yourself stuck in patterns that once helped you survive but now get in the way of the life you want. You may struggle with anxiety, depression, self-criticism, emotional overwhelm, relationship difficulties, or a constant sense that you're carrying more than everyone else seems to be. The good news is that these patterns make sense. They developed for a reason. The question isn't "What's wrong with me? " The question is "What happened to me — and what do I want to do with that story now?" Navigating that answer is the work we do together.
Are you trying to manage conflicting feelings, difficulty with relationships, trauma, grief, or simply facing the daily challenges of life? Sometimes a relationship with a skilled therapist can be a great place to explore these challenges and figure out how you can improve your quality of your life. I work with children, adolescents, and young adults who face struggles; some small, some big. Whether you’re looking for a therapist for yourself or for your child, I will tailor our work together to fit your needs. I have worked with kids of various ages, ranging from elementary to college age, and I have experience working in both school settings and in private practice. I specialize in working with trauma, grief and loss, anxiety, and relationship and identity issues. Children and young adults face many challenges stemming from their family of origin, questioning their identity, figuring out their way to becoming fulfilled adults, and much more. Our work together centers around how to help my clients to better understand their feelings and the way they think about the world, and how this all impacts their everyday choices. My therapeutic approach is based on Internal Family Systems (also known as “Parts Work”). This work stems from the belief that we are all made up of a system of dynamic, caring, and capable parts. When we experience trauma, some facets of our parts have to adopt extreme roles to protect us. Later on, these parts may need help letting go of their past experiences so they don’t negatively impact us. IFS work gives you the space and tools you need to approach your parts with curiosity, gain insight into them and why they were formed, understand what roles they play in your beliefs, actions, and relationships, and ultimately be able to heal yourself. In this work, I also use elements of Trauma-Informed Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Relational Therapy, and Mindfulness. For my younger or creatively-inclined clients, I include play and art therapy techniques to keep the sessions engaging and give clients creative modalities through which they can better express themselves. My success in treating clients lies in my ability to build trusting relationships with them. My goal is to create a warm, accepting, and encouraging therapeutic environment. I incorporate creativity and fun into my sessions while balancing the hard work that it takes to make meaningful life changes.
My role is to support clients to achieve goals, whether it be for self-exploration, empowerment, navigating the challenges of a life transition or wanting to enhance or maintain the quality of a relationship. I am a trauma-informed therapist who highlights strengths and believes that every individual possesses the innate power of making meaningful changes.

I offer therapy that's largely integrative, pulling from several different theories and adapting my approach to best fit the identities, needs, and style of each client. My goal is to create a therapeutic environment in which my clients can feel both supported and challenged. Having a space to share vulnerably and work on personal growth and healing is a great opportunity, but it's also very hard work! Since I ask my clients to show up vulnerably, I try to do the same, bringing my authentic self to the room. I look forward to conversations about how our similarities and differences impact our work. I frequently work with survivors of trauma, provide letters of support for gender affirming healthcare, discuss neurodiversity, and help clients explore their sexual and/or gender identity. I have specialized training in perinatal mood and anxiety disorders, OCD, as well as disordered eating and body image concerns. I work from a non-dieting, health at every size paradigm. I view therapy as a collaborative process, one that depends largely on the relationship built between client and therapist. I offer free, brief phone consultations to discuss goodness of fit and answer any questions you may have. I look forward to hearing from you!
If you feel unheard, disconnected, or at the end of your rope, maybe you are feeling lost after losing your faith, or are in a relationship that leaves you unseen. I offer therapy that starts with your emotions, lived experience, and focuses on compassion as a tool for healing. I utilize a trauma-informed, nature-based therapy and believe nature is a powerful tool for keeping us grounded when things in our lives feel out of control. Together we can work on helping you feel more grounded, connected, and at peace. I offer telehealth counseling across Oregon, including Portland, Salem, Eugene, Bend, and Medford. Much of my work has involved trauma and helping people make sense of what happened and how it shows up now. I listened first, reflect what I'm hearing, and then look at what emotions that brings up for you, in a warm, non-judgmental, calming space. I also offer walk-and-talk, nature-based sessions for people who feel better processing outdoors. Finding the right fit matters. Schedule a free 15-minute consultation on my website. Evening hours available.
Hi there! I'm Sarah, an artist, art therapist and mental health counselor. Talking to a new person about the hards parts of your life can feel deeply vulnerable! Whether it’s coming to therapy for the first time, returning after a break, or transitioning therapists, I understand the bravery and inner strength that reaching out for help requires. I aim to make the process of coming to therapy easy by making folks feel respected, safe, and understood. I provide space where people can be human, laugh/cry, share truths, and practice new skills. I try to be a person first in therapy by putting the therapy relationship at the forefront. People find my style is warm, funny, caring, and open. I am passionate about working with folks experiencing: Anxiety, Obsessive Compulsive Disorder (OC-Spectrum), Parenting & Family Concerns, and Trauma. In my practice, I work hard to individualize a combination of evidence based treatments and expressive therapies to meet the needs and interests of the person. I integrate and individualize use of a few frameworks: Art Therapy, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Exposure & Response Prevention, Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction, and Compassion Focused Therapy. The typical challenges people face are embedded in fear of rejection, loneliness and disconnection - not feeling likable and lovable. Meaningful living can be achieved by acknowledging this fear and acting intentionally to create love, authenticity, and congruence. I believe effective counseling is grounded in a trusting and affirming working alliance. I work from an interpersonal perspective, meaning our professional relationship is the key to a positive and productive experience. Grounding my training in Existential-Humanistic theory, I seek to support your effort to find personal meaning and self-understanding, to explore your lived experience and discover the most genuine you. I offer support to achieve insight and the tools to cultivate purposeful transformation, enabling you to live a meaningful life in the face of uncertainty and potential suffering. We all take turns with suffering; we all take turns with joy. You can feel accomplished and connected; I can help.
