Therapists for college students near Portland State University
Erin VanVoorhies, PsyD
I work with college students, graduate students, and adults navigating life's many transitions. Before entering private practice, I worked in two university counseling centers, where my clinical work focused on supporting young and emerging adults as they managed academic stress, relationships, identity development, anxiety, depression, trauma, and major life decisions. I especially enjoy working with highly sensitive people (HSPs), adults with ADHD, and those exploring or adjusting to a late diagnosis of autism. I also have extensive experience supporting clients exploring questions related to gender and sexual identity. Many of my clients are thoughtful, self-aware people who feel overwhelmed, stuck in recurring emotional or relationship patterns, or exhausted from trying to meet others’ expectations while feeling disconnected from themselves. My style is warm, collaborative, and relational. I believe that a trusting therapeutic relationship provides the foundation for lasting change. Together, we'll explore the emotional and relational patterns that shape your life, helping you develop greater insight, emotional awareness, self-compassion, and new ways of responding to challenges. My work is grounded in psychodynamic and relational therapy, while also incorporating mindfulness- and compassion-based approaches, as well as somatic awareness and experiential interventions when they are helpful. I tailor therapy to each person, balancing reflection and insight with practical tools that help you feel more connected, resilient, and authentic. I practice from a feminist and anti-oppressive perspective and strive to create a culturally responsive, affirming space where all aspects of your identity and experience are welcomed with curiosity, respect, and compassion.

Griffin Oakley
Hi, I’m Griffin (he/him). College can bring up more than you expect — old patterns resurface, relationships get complicated, and sometimes it's hard to explain why you feel off when everything looks fine on paper. I work best with students who have some awareness of what's going on but can't seem to make it stop. If you're dealing with trauma, identity questions, ADHD, anxiety, or just a persistent feeling that something underneath isn't working — this is a good space to figure it out.

I utilize a collaborative approach to therapy. I may have knowledge and experience in therapeutic skills, but the client is the expert on their life and the issues they bring to therapy. It takes both of us to share our understanding to develop goals and create the change the client desires. I use strategies from a variety of different therapeutic theories, but I like to practice solution-focused strategies when possible. Sometimes we don't need to know a lot about the history of the problem to solve it. I'm a therapist with Octave and Evernorth Behavioral Care Group. Octave is a mental health practice providing high-quality care covered by multiple insurances. Evernorth Behavioral Care Group is a behavioral health provider group in-network with Cigna Healthcare and Evernorth. For my availability, please reach out to Octave’s team by emailing or calling.

As both a therapist and a person who has received therapy, I do not hide my humanity from my clients, and value being transparent and genuine in my approach. Something you'll notice when working with me is that I often hold two seemingly conflicting ideas as true at the same time. Welcome! Most clients who seek me out are overwhelmed. They may be dealing with life transitions like separation, divorce, single parenting, empty nesting, or career changes. They may feel alone and need help moving forward. Sometimes they are doing their best to juggle life's stresses while managing chronic illness or disability - whether that's their own autoimmune condition, their child's autism or ADHD, a partner's sudden stroke, or an aging parent's Alzheimer's. Above all, they want a personal connection with someone who believes in them and validates their feelings, experiences, and concerns. As a counselor, I offer undivided attention & nonjudgement. I listen with compassion, using curiosity & thoughtful questions to examine your concerns. Together we may use creative activities (writing, drawing, projection) to approach problems in new ways. I’ll also challenge you to take small action steps to help you meet the goals you've set for yourself. In our work together I will honor your wholeness and recognize your inherent strengths. This means that—while I will attend to the challenges you describe in session—I will also recognize your knowledge, skills, attitudes, wisdom, capabilities, community, and resiliency. You are so much more than your hardship! You can reach me by phone at 971-232-3187 or email me at wendymicheau@introspectivecollective.org.

I support college students whether you’re just starting out, returning to school, or navigating a major life shift through anxiety, trauma, and the many transitions that come with this chapter of life. College can feel overwhelming in ways people don’t always talk about. The pressure to succeed, uncertainty about the future, shifting relationships, and trying to figure out who you are it’s a lot to carry. Therapy with me is a space where you can slow down, feel heard, and begin to make sense of everything you’ve been holding. Together, we’ll work to: Understand patterns that keep you feeling stuck or overwhelmed Learn how to regulate anxiety, stress, and intense emotions Build coping tools that actually fit your daily life as a student Strengthen your sense of identity, confidence, and direction My approach blends Culturally Adaptive CBT, person-centered therapy, and somatic (body-based) practices so we’re not just talking about change, we’re helping your mind and body actually experience it. I work with college students who may be: Feeling anxious, burnt out, or constantly “on edge” Struggling to balance school, work, and personal life Carrying trauma or past experiences that still feel present Navigating friendships, dating, or family expectations Questioning identity, purpose, or direction in life First-generation or BIPOC students looking for a culturally safe, understanding space Wherever you are in your journey, you don’t have to figure it out alone.
