Therapists for college students near New York, NY
Hello! My practice focuses on CBT and a holistic approach to Mental Health. I am within walking distance to Vassar College and a short drive from Marist College. I have been in private practice for over 10 years. My philosophy is that everyone deserves the opportunity for their best mental health. And that you are the expert on you!
I come to this work from a place of deep respect for each individual’s story and path. I believe in creating an inclusive, welcoming space where you will feel comfortable exploring both your strengths and your challenges. I have a collaborative approach and value being direct, supportive, responsive to feedback. I have a background in Women’s Studies and literature and creative writing and may incorporate creative and expressive activities such as storytelling and reading other people’s stories as part of our work. I have experience working with a range of issues and populations (see below). I am passionate about women’s and LGBTQI issues and have extensive experience working with gender expansive and transgender individuals along the gender continuum. Fundamentally, I believe the relationship between an individual and his/her/their therapist matters much more than the specific techniques employed. My primary focus early in therapy is developing a relationship where my clients trust me and feel comfortable. I work with individuals in an open and honest dialogue and help individuals increase resiliency and coping skills through identifying their strengths. Primarily I provide individual counseling on a weekly basis. Many clients will be able to work through a particular issue or issues in a brief time, but I am also able to work with clients over a longer span of time.

That insight is at the core of the work we’ll do together. ________________________________________ HAPPINESS & GOAL ORIENTED GROUPS Available for: -Universities -Families & Friends ________________________________________ A PERSONAL NOTE: MY FORENSIC WORK RELATED TO SEXUAL ABUSE As a survivor of sexual abuse, I became deeply driven to understand why—why someone would inflict such harm. That question led me into forensic psychology, where I spent 10 years treating sexual offenders, individuals widely despised by society. Over time, I realized that preventing future harm required helping offenders understand the origins of their actions. Few psychologists—especially survivors who fully grasp the impact—choose this path. But I knew that without effective treatment, the cycle continues. My mission became clear: NO MORE VICTIMS. ______ Holly A. Silva, Psy.D. Licensed Clinical Psychologist CT | NY | VA 📞 860-222-4211 📧 drhollysilva@gmail.com

College is a time of huge transitions, and it’s easy to feel anxious, stressed, or unsure where you stand. If you're struggling with overwhelming worry (anxiety), feeling stuck after a tough transition (like starting school or a breakup), grappling with past trauma, or just trying to figure out challenging relationships, you've come to the right place. Your Therapy, Your Tools My practice is built on the belief that you already have what you need within you (though it may not feel like it, right now) —we just need to clear out all the noise and find and focus on what actually works for you. We'll ease your mind: We use practical, science-backed strategies to help you unhook from negative thought spirals and calm that constant feeling of being "on edge." We'll discover and heal the root causes : We'll gently explore the "parts" of you that are feeling anxious, unclear, or worn out, and use powerful processing methods to reduce the intensity of recent or past trauma or fear (like EMDR and IFS). We'll help you adjust: Whether you're dealing with the stress of major life transitions or trying to set healthier boundaries in relationships, we'll create space for you to process the change and build a stronger sense of self. We'll get you grounded: I integrate the calming power of nature-based tools (in or out of the office) to help your nervous system slow down, allowing you to find a peaceful space even when deadlines are looming. We’ll work together, at your own pace, to move you from feeling overwhelmed to thriving on campus and beyond. Ready to take a breath and start building a college experience that feels authentic and manageable? Let's connect.
Hello! I am a clinical psychologist who specializes in working with young adults, LGBTQ+ people (especially trans and non-binary), trauma, and emotional instability. My clients often come from backgrounds where they feel misunderstood and invalidated. They sometimes feel frustrated with their important relationships, or like they're stuck on an emotional roller coaster, or like they have trouble relaxing and feeling safe. In therapy, I create an accepting, non-judgmental environment where my clients can feel truly seen. From there, I help clients understand themselves, what they want to change in their lives, and how to reach their goals. I completed my training at college counseling centers and a hospital program serving college students. I know the challenges college students face, and I love helping students overcome those challenges. If you think we might be a good fit for therapy, please reach out! I offer free 15 minute consultation calls for anyone interested. I am currently offering therapy in person in Berkeley, CA on Saturdays and over Zoom Tuesday-Saturday in California, New York, and Virginia.

Rebecca is a counseling intern who is passionate about creating a safe and supportive space for clients to explore their stories and identities. As an Asian American woman and adoptee, she understands how deeply identity, belonging, and cultural context shape people’s lives. Her own journey has given her both compassion and insight into the challenges of navigating transitions, healing from loss, and building a strong sense of self. These experiences guide the way she shows up as a therapist, with openness, authenticity, and respect for each individual’s unique story. She is particularly committed to working with clients exploring identity, cultural-related experiences, or significant life transitions. She also supports Asian American and Pacific Islander (AAPI) individuals, holding space for the layered experiences of culture, family, and generational dynamics. Her goal is to create a space where clients feel comfortable being fully themselves, open, honest, and truly seen. Rebecca’s approach is compassionate and client-centered, drawing from person-centered, narrative, and mindfulness-based practices, as well as elements of cognitive behavioral therapy and multicultural frameworks. She believes therapy is not about “fixing” someone, but about helping clients reconnect with their voice, values, and inner resources. Together, she works with clients to explore what matters most and foster a deeper sense of clarity, confidence, and connection. You can self-schedule a free consultation at ccservices.janeapp.com.
I aim to create a space where each person feels seen, understood, and safe enough to show up as they are. I specialize in supporting individuals navigating anxiety, depression, body image struggles, relationship distress, trauma, family dysfunction, and reproductive-related stress. I believe therapy works best when it feels human, honest, and safe enough to be real. For me, that means showing up as a real person too—usually with a big cup of coffee in hand—while bringing warmth, humor, and directness into our work. Together, we’ll validate what you’ve been through while noticing patterns that may be keeping you stuck.
Life can feel overwhelming. You might be carrying past trauma, facing anxiety that won’t ease, or navigating a lingering sadness. Maybe you’re exploring how your identity has been shaped by culture, history, or generational pain—and you’re ready to reclaim your voice. Whatever brings you here, I want you to know: reaching out is a powerful first step. As a therapist with over a decade of experience, I create a trauma-informed space where you feel seen and supported. Together, we’ll face the hard stuff while making room for healing, hope, and growth. I specialize in trauma, anxiety, depression, identity, and life transitions. My approach is rooted in decolonizing therapy—honoring how colonization, systemic oppression, and cultural narratives impact mental health. We’ll gently examine and unlearn internalized beliefs, reconnect with your resilience, and center your wisdom. This work isn’t just about surviving—it’s about liberation. I believe in the power of healing, especially in the face of profound pain. Therapy for me is about coming home to yourself—finding strength, wholeness, and meaning. If you're seeking someone who deeply listens, understands your complexity, and honors your story, I’d be honored to share this space.
Therapy is an invitation to identify and gently question beliefs and perceived obstacles that stand in the way of our wellness, happiness and living our lives fully. We base our work together on you- what you see happening in your life, what you want to be different, your strengths, your goals and bigger life plans. Together we identify ways to make positive small shifts to clarify and work toward obtaining your best future. We believe in positive psychology interventions that are solution focused and strength based. We believe your mind is the most powerful resource. We can help you to learn how to use it to make powerful, lasting change.
