Therapists for college students near New York, NY
I am a licensed master social worker (LMSW) providing individual and couples therapy in New York State. While I work with folks who have a variety of presenting concerns and backgrounds, I have a specific interest in working with individuals, couples, and people in partnerships who are identified as part of the LGBTQIA+, polyamorous, and kink communities. Whether you’re seeking individual or couples therapy, I believe that meaningful change tends to occur when people can shed the societal expectations of what they “should” be, in favor of embracing who they are. To that end, I have an eclectic style that integrates humanistic, relational, and family systems perspectives to fit the particular situation and individual(s) in the room. I seek to de-stigmatize sex, help people feel at home in their bodies, and encourage people to feel good about what they do in or with their bodies. After completing my Master of Social Work (MSW) degree, I completed post-graduate education in the Developmental Model of Couples Therapy. Furthermore, I have additional training in working with sex and sexuality in psychotherapy, including desire discrepancy and infidelity. In terms of my personal philosophy, I strongly believe that my clients are the experts in their own experiences. I am committed to creating a space that is anti-racist, sex positive, and LGBTQIA+ affirming. I value transparency in the therapy process and seek to build a collaborative alliance with everyone I work with.
My clients often come to me with a history of trauma or adversity, and a strong desire to process and understand how their past has shaped them to be the person they are today. They’re motivated, insightful, eager to grow, and have a strong desire to learn the skills necessary to have healthier relationships, better communication, and improved confidence. Through our work together, we begin to understand and develop the tools necessary to manage anxiety and depressive symptoms that can at times be a barrier for further growth. I aim to provide an empathetic and compassionate space where clients feel safe to open up and supported in their process. Utilizing a non-pathologizing and trauma-informed lens, I help clients put together a cohesive narrative of their life experiences to empower them to begin building a life that feels aligned with their goals and values. At the core of my work is the belief that a strong therapeutic connection is the foundation for successful treatment allowing for personal growth, insight, and healing. Beginning therapy is not always an easy process, but we will always go at your pace as we work toward better days.
My approach is both relational and practical. I focus on helping you understand the patterns that keep you stuck—especially overthinking, self-doubt, and relationship anxiety—while also giving you tools to respond differently in real time. I draw from a blend of approaches, including insight-oriented work and more structured strategies, depending on what’s most helpful for you. I’m active and engaged in sessions, not just listening but helping you make connections and move forward. The goal is not just insight, but actual change in how you think, feel, and show up.
I understand how difficult times have been. Being back home, missing your friends and social life. I get you. My practice works extensively with college students. Together we can navigate during these turbulent times and get to a better place. I am here for you.
Welcome! Struggling with relationship issues, substance use, or trauma's impact on your daily life? Feeling overwhelmed by sadness, anxiety, or stress? Many people today find it tough just to manage, let alone understand, their experiences. I help individuals improve their well-being, gain clarity on feelings, and develop effective coping strategies. My focus includes supporting young adults dealing with mood, PTSD, addiction, LGBTQ+ and TGNB experiences, and men’s health challenges. As a therapist and educator at NYU, I specialize in psychodynamic and trauma-informed approaches, blending compassion with humor. Treatment is tailored to meet you where you are and guide you towards where you want to be. Let's collaborate on a journey towards a more resilient, purposeful, and peaceful self. OON.

Life can throw a lot at us. You may need a space where you can lay it all out without worrying about being judged. I provide a space where you can talk/vent about stuff like depression, grief, family stress, identity issues, the everyday frustrations, and even the messy in between. Nothing is too big or small to discuss. I work with people going through life transitions, relationships challenges, the ups and downs that come with being LGBTQ+, bicultural, or even navigating racial identity. I know how important it is to feel seen and understood. I make it a priority to create space to let it all out and do not hold anything back. Therapy with me is about honesty, connection, and real talk. In our sessions we will learn to process deeply, and move forward with clarity and purpose. We will figure things out together, at your pace, you can reset, find renewal, feel empowered and more in control of you.

We are a team of psychotherapists who blend traditional talk therapy with creative arts therapies and mind-body healing arts to help you feel better, cope better, heal, grow and thrive. Whether you choose to work with us in Talk Therapy, Art Therapy, Dance-Movement Therapy, Yoga Therapy, or a combination, our aim is to provide a refuge for you to express, explore and discover your deepest truths, gain clarity and build resilience, find balance and direction, and to live more authentically, with more courage and connection, presence, purpose and passion. Our primary goal is to provide a safe, supportive space where you feel seen, heard, and met. An inclusive, anti-racist, culturally humble, LGBTQ+ allied, welcoming-to-all environment is step one. We are here for you and would be honored to join you on your path.
I believe in your ability to grow, change, and heal even in incredibly difficult circumstances. I create a supportive and validating environment, while also challenging my clients to consider different perspectives. I bring a trauma informed, strengths-based, and client-centered approach to my work with clients. I specialize in relationships, whether they are romantic, platonic, familial, professional. I also help clients develop better relationships with themselves. I work with clients to establish boundaries, determine priorities, develop greater self compassion, and align their actions with their values. Some sessions may feel free flowing and philosophical–for example, exploring the ethics of non-monogamy, the impact of diagnosis on identity, or the current political climate. Other sessions may feel more goal oriented and structured. I often suggest readings to clients, which we process and unpack in session together. I offer concrete coping skills to manage life's challenges and help clients create sustainable changes. Beginning therapy can be intimidating, so be proud of yourself for even considering it. Feel free to reach out and schedule a free 15 consultation call if you feel ready to begin this process together.
About Me: Hello, I'm Nhi, a dedicated first-generation social work intern in my second year at Columbia University's School of Social Work. I hold a B.A. in Psychology from Grinnell College and bring a deeply personal understanding of mental health challenges shaped by my own experiences as an Asian American in foster care. My journey has been profoundly influenced by the intersection of intergenerational trauma, immigration, and systemic inequalities, providing me with a unique perspective on the complexities of healing and resilience. My Approach: I believe that trauma and mental health struggles do not exist in a vacuum—they are often reflections of broader societal issues. Growing up in a family affected by intergenerational trauma, poverty, and systemic discrimination, I understand firsthand the cascading effects these forces can have on a person's mental and emotional well-being, even into adulthood. This insight drives my therapeutic approach, where I aim to provide a compassionate, culturally sensitive space for clients to explore their experiences and find healing. I bring extensive experience working with diverse populations and complex trauma. During my time as a case manager at a domestic violence shelter, I supported individuals and families from all walks of life, many of whom were dealing with overlapping traumas, including domestic violence, mental health struggles, homelessness, childhood trauma, and identity-based discrimination. This experience reinforced my belief that trauma and mental health challenges are often intertwined with larger societal issues. Mental health challenges can significantly impact daily functioning, even long after the precipitating events have occurred. In some cases, there may be no clear cause, yet the impact is still profound. Regardless of the situation, everyone deserves support in their healing journey. In my practice, I adopt a flexible, client-centered approach, tailoring my methods to meet each individual's unique needs and strengths. I utilize a range of therapeutic techniques, including trauma-informed therapy, person-centered therapy, motivational interviewing, cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT), and dialectical behavior therapy (DBT). I believe every person has the inherent capacity to navigate their challenges, and my role is to support, empower, and provide tools for their journey toward healing. What to Expect: In our work together, you can expect a supportive, non-judgmental environment where your experiences are honored, and your voice is central to the healing process. I am committed to understanding your story in its full context, recognizing the multiple layers of identity and experience that shape who you are. Whether you're dealing with personal trauma, managing day-to-day stressors, or seeking a deeper understanding of yourself, I'm here to walk alongside you, providing the guidance and support you need. I am a pre-licensed therapist intern at Sol Health working under the supervision of Susan Chung, LCSW, MPH. Sol Health is a digital health startup that offers $30 therapy to Gen Zs by connecting them with therapists in-training accruing clinical hours. Is life feeling out of control? Are you struggling with significant life changes, relationship issues, grief, immigration and acculturation challenges, or in need of trauma processing? Maybe it’s time to talk with someone. You don’t have to face these challenges alone—I'm here to help and make it easier for you. As a first-generation Chinese American immigrant, I understand many of these struggles on a personal level, and so many of my clients find that connection valuable to open up to me. I am confident that with my experience and personalized approach, I can guide you toward a positive direction in life. My clients often express that they feel heard and safe during our sessions with my naturally warm and empathetic demeanor, but also challenge them at a capacity for growth. Outside of my work, I enjoy spending time with my family and my pug, watching dramas, reading books, and staying in quiet places—all of which help me stay grounded and balanced. What do you do to feel grounded? It’s completely normal to feel uncertain about starting therapy, especially if it’s new to you or you don’t know me yet.
