Hello! I am a licensed clinical therapist with over 8 years of counseling experience. My expertise lies in helping people achieve their goals of stress reduction, improved coping skills, communication, and self-esteem. My eclectic approach includes extensive knowledge in cognitive behavioral, client-centered, and trauma-informed therapy modalities. As an Afro-Latina myself, I know that having a culturally-sensitive therapist is very important to ensure that clients feel heard and supported in sessions. I believe in creating a space of acceptance and unconditional positive regard in order to foster self-acceptance and healing. My therapeutic style is warm, supportive, and nonjudgmental. I am a firm believer in starting where you are at and establishing a strong therapeutic relationship to achieve your goals. I will tailor my therapeutic style to your needs as I gain a deeper understanding of your concerns and goals. I prefer to work with patients that are open to becoming more self-aware and learn coping skills to manage their mental health. In our first session, I will establish a therapeutic working relationship with you and ask you what brings you in to counseling. If you think we might be a good fit, please reach out! I am part of the Path referral network, which means that when you reach out, my team will get back to you quickly to schedule our first session. I am committed to making therapy affordable. Pre-Licensed Professional
New York, NY

Hi, I’m Helena Chang, a second-year clinical master’s student of social work. My approach is all about understanding the “why” behind the challenges you’re facing. By exploring your environment, past experiences, and childhood, we’ll uncover patterns and gain insight into what’s shaping your thoughts and emotions. This self-awareness becomes the foundation for meaningful growth and change. Once we’ve built that understanding, we’ll work together to develop tools and skills that feel practical and empowering for you. I like to mix in strategies from Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) to make sure we’re not just reflecting, but also taking action to help you feel more confident and in control. My goal is to create a space where you feel comfortable, supported, and understood. We’ll work as a team to help you grow, heal, and move toward the life you want. Helena Chang is a therapist-in-training at Sol Health. Sol Health is a digital health startup that offers $30 therapy to Gen Zs by connecting them with therapists-in-training accruing clinical hours.

Are you a resilient person who is struggling? Have you lived through a recent traumatic event or had a stressful childhood, and find yourself frequently stuck in self-destructive patterns and relationships? Is adjusting to college life causing you to feel anxious, depressed, or overwhelmed and just plain burnt out? Or have you experienced a sexual assault and don't know how to deal with it? Adjusting to college is a significant life transition and it's not always clear what to do next. Finding confidence in your own voice and abilities, and clarity about your own needs can be difficult when you've been through stressful experiences. I'm here to guide you back to yourself, offer you some coping skills, help you clarify your life direction and reach your goals. I specialize in working with professionals in the performing arts and other creative fields, as well as those who want to enter them. I also work frequently with people in the helping professions and social justice oriented fields. My approach is informed by my own life experience as a former professional dancer in the American Ballet Theatre, and by the study of meditation and yoga. I have been in the social work field since graduating from Hunter College School of Social work 2004. In addition to talk therapy, I use mindfulness techniques like meditation, guided visualizations, as well as attention to body sensations to help you identify and begin to move through where you get blocked. I am also trained in EMDR and utilize that technique to help people heal from trauma and other stressful experiences. **Will be out of office July 11-.**
