I work with college students, young adults, and adults who are navigating anxiety, depression, life transitions, grief, and the stress that can come with school, relationships, identity, and uncertainty about the future. I’m especially passionate about supporting young adults through the often-overwhelming transition from college to the “real world” — whether that means coping with job-search stress, navigating career pressure, adjusting to new responsibilities, or trying to make sense of who you are outside of school. I also help clients process loss of identity during major life changes, such as graduating, stepping away from athletics, changing roles, or leaving behind a version of themselves that once felt familiar. I also specialize in supporting expats and individuals living abroad who may be facing loneliness, culture adjustment, and the emotional complexity of feeling caught between worlds. My approach to therapy is holistic, collaborative, and personalized. I draw from mindfulness and wellness-based strategies when helpful, and I tailor the work to each client’s goals, needs, and lived experiences. Whether you’re feeling overwhelmed, stuck, disconnected, burnt out, or simply unsure of what’s next, I strive to create a space where you feel seen, supported, and empowered to grow.
I am a licensed clinical social worker providing trauma-informed counseling rooted in queer liberation and trans joy. I apply my training in EMDR, embodiment, and somatics, as well as my own experience in a queer body, to support people in generating the autonomy and empowerment necessary to navigate significant life transitions with choice. I would be happy to talk with you about how we can work together to support you in feeling grounded, calm, and secure, about building your access to joy, supporting your commitment to activism, and navigating the ongoing stressors of the world at this time.
We get so many messages in our lives about what is expected and how we "should" be living; social media, friends, and culture can all provide an idea of what we should be reaching for, which can often feel confusing and frustrating. If we grow up with dysfunction and trauma, it can seem even more confusing. We struggle with these expectations and somehow still feel we are coming up short. It can become an exhausting pursuit! It gets harder and harder to listen to our own voice, and what our needs are. I am drawn to helping people who have dealt with trauma and feel persistent isolation and sadness in their daily lives. Together, we can try to look at things a different way, and navigate a different path. Let's explore together, like astronauts! By gaining perspective, we can find opportunities for strength and agency in our everyday lives. By connecting to new support, we can make our own space to think about things we didn't know were possible. My goal is to create a safe space for exploration and support you on this path. Making the first step can be intimidating, but we can also go to new places. Contact me to setup a free consultation call to figure out how we can move forward together.

My goal is to support clients in becoming the best version of themselves. I see therapy as a tool to support and motivate clients in taking control of their lives. I believe that therapy is truly for everyone- you do not need to have a major problem to start therapy. Therapy can be a place where we discuss the good things happening in your life! However, starting therapy is a vulnerable process. I am here to support your experiences and to provide you with the tools to better cope with situations. I focus on exploring clients' inner voices and beliefs that dictate how we interpret situations. I work with young adults and adults. I work mainly with issues around self worth, communication, anxiety, and life transitions. I have a background in education and empathize with young adults and adults striving for perfectionism. I also feel passionately about helping young adults feel empowered and find happiness and success in their careers and the corporate world. As a Jewish therapist, I bring a strong appreciation for how culture, identity, and personal values shape the way we move through the world. I aim to create a warm, nonjudgmental space where you can show up fully as yourself—whether you’re navigating school stress, relationships, family dynamics, or figuring out who you want to be in this next chapter of your life.
When life feels unpredictable or overwhelming, therapy offers a space to pause and find your footing. Balancing academic pressure, family expectations, and questions about identity can feel especially heavy. I work with students navigating transitions such as starting a new school, adjusting to college, graduating, or finding their place in demanding environments. Therapy with me is a supportive, judgment-free space where you can openly explore stress, identity, relationships, past experiences, and self-doubt. Together, we’ll build coping tools, confidence, and self-compassion, so you don’t have to carry everything on your own.
My work embraces creativity as a pathway to healing, growth, and resilience across the lifespan. I specialize in family work, couples therapy, and challenges for emerging adults.
I am a Latina therapist, clinical supervisor, speaker, consultant, and founder of Capaz Counseling. I oversee staff who provide $25 therapy sessions because I believe in supporting the mission of accessible care. I specialize in Attachment and Trauma Therapy and create communities for fellow BIPOC therapists. Over the past decade, in hospitals, non-profits, and school-based mental health clinics, I’ve supported adults, children, and families on a path of attunement and embodied relationships. I flow between Psychodynamic Therapy, Interpersonal Neurobiology and Emotionally Focused Therapy, to help folx deepen the relationship they hold with themselves and others. There is strength in understanding the patterns that shape you, and I help shine a light on your immense capacity for growth within and beyond those patterns. Together we will reflect on your inner and outer world so that we can hold space for somatic connection, holistic understanding, and compassion for all parts of you. I enjoy working with those from all walks of life. My expertise shines particularly in supporting BIPOC and LGBTQIAGNC folx navigating their professional world, young adults developing their identity(ies), those who’ve experienced trauma, and parents who would like to create new generational cycles in their parenting. As a first-gen entrepreneur, I believe in the power of creating spaces for us, by us. In addition to managing my practice, I’ve found joy in the community I’ve created by launching a New York BIPOC therapist consultation group and listserv, and in supporting emerging practices and early-career therapists navigate their journeys.
For over 40 years, I've worked with individuals, couples, families, & groups. From among the numerous treatment approaches in which I've trained, i custom tailor a way of working that best suits your needs. Thus, I start by listening to your concerns. Then together we can delineate goals. These can range from broad existential concerns, e.g. how you want to BE everyday, how to live "happier." . . to practical ways to improve your relationship(s), choose a career, reduce your anxiety or depression, manage your A.D.D. I work with local psychiatrists if you wish to consider, or manage, medication(s). I'm sorry but i do not accept any insurance (managed care was around when i started to practice). I'll help you find out if your insurance contract will reimburse you for an Out-of-Network (OON) Psychologist like myself. Also, since Covid, i've been working solely over Zoom. I look forward to hearing from you. Dr. Joy

Jim is currently a staff therapist for Sarah Lawrence College and is offering telehealth therapeutic support through his private practice in New York State. While he has experience supporting a wide range of clients, Jim’s time at SLC has helped him hone his skill set with undergraduate and graduate students, athletes, members of the queer- and trans communities, and performing artists. Jim uses an eclectic therapeutic approach, combining psychodynamic, person-centered, REBT and IFS modalities to address the needs of his clients. His 25-year acting career (Broadway, national tours, regional theatre, new works, concerts, etc.) informs his curiosity about how we may authentically inhabit the various roles we all play in our lives.
