Psychiatry and primary care stand at the heart of holistic healthcare, combining the expertise of mental and physical well-being to treat the whole person. In today’s world, where the complexities of life often challenge both the mind and body, the integration of psychiatry and primary care is more essential than ever. This collaboration not only addresses physical ailments but also recognizes the profound impact mental health has on overall wellness. By bridging the gap between emotional and physical care, psychiatry and primary care create a comprehensive approach, empowering individuals to lead healthier, more balanced lives. Together, they offer hope, healing, and the opportunity for every person to achieve their full potential, mentally and physically.

Emotions, transitions, and life challenges can feel overwhelming for many people. My goal is to help you feel more in control, find peace in your day-to-day, and work towards your goals for wellness. I work with adults and teens who are dealing with issues like anxiety, depression, trauma, grief, or life transitions. Together, we’ll work towards understanding your emotions and behaviors in a supportive, empathetic, nonjudgmental environment. My style is warm, collaborative, strength-based and goal oriented. I focus on a holistic approach to counseling and meeting you where you are at in your process. I take an integrative approach to therapy, combining evidence-based techniques such as CBT and mindfulness practices with psychodynamic insight. I believe that therapy is a journey of self-discovery and growth, so we’ll work together to identify the causes of your challenges, develop coping strategies, and create lasting change. Therapy is a partnership, and it’s important that you feel comfortable and heard. In our work together, I’ll provide a space where you can speak freely without judgment, and I’ll support you as you explore your feelings, thoughts, experiences, and behaviors. Everyone has the potential for growth and healing, and I’m here to help guide that process.

You are smart and capable but are struggling right now. Emotions are coming up that are uncomfortable and are making the life you want to live just harder. Whether it's old stuff like self-esteem or new stuff like grief or cultural adjustment, I work with you to help you get back on a healthier and happier path. I work with you in a very active yet nurturing manner. My style is direct, compassionate, yet a bit playful at times. :) You are unique and every therapist is not a perfect match for everyone. Due to that, I give a free 50-minute consultation prior to us committing to work together. Two things to know about my practice is that I am online only and that I am not on insurance panels (if you have out-of-network benefits, that might help with the cost). If you think we might be a good match, check out my website and then reach out for a consultation. :)

You pride yourself in having it together, but now you feel like everything is falling apart. You were looking forward to college and worked hard to get here, but now that you’re here, you feel like you just can’t get your bearings. Am I good enough? Is all this stress worth it? Will I ever feel fully competent? You feel guilty and wonder if you are ungrateful because of these questions. You want your confidence back but don’t know where to begin. Feelings of isolation and doubt are more common than you think. I've been there and I can help you regain the excitement you once felt. Therapy is a space where you can speak your fears and share your apathy. It is a moment in time that is all about you. Together, we will find your footing again. I offer online therapy sessions so that you can get the support you deserve at your convenience. Call today for a free 15 minute consultation. Take your first step towards feeling like yourself again.

I am a licensed mental health professional and I work with individuals from adolescence through adulthood, from various cultural backgrounds. I specialize in working with clients who are experiencing issues with depression, anxiety, trauma and post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), grief, self-esteem issues, relationship concerns, and life transitions. I see therapy as a collaborative process and am honored each time clients trust me to walk alongside them in their respective healing journeys. I am a passionate trauma-informed, person-centered therapist, who seeks to make mental health services accessible and welcoming to all, especially Black Indigenous People of Color (BIPOC) communities. To meet the needs of my clients, I utilize an individualized, strengths-based approach that often incorporates aspects of motivational interviewing, narrative therapy, cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), brainspotting, mindfulness/meditation, trauma-informed yoga, and relational work/

Clinical Social Work/Therapist
Belfast, ME

Hi, I’m Ben Borkan, and am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker and a Certified Gestalt Therapist. I primarily work with couples using Crucible® Therapy and Gestalt Therapy. However, I occasionally see individuals who are looking to work on their own relationships. I did not initially start out seeing couples. I began my career in wilderness therapy, where I guided groups of young adults and saw the impact of social relationships on individuals’ development, both from family systems and also in the healing work that can be accomplished in a group setting. My work in wilderness therapy inspired me to pursue clinical social work at Smith College School for Social Work where I received my MSW. In the past decade I have worked in a variety of settings, practicing various modalities with individuals, couples, families and groups. Therapy combines both my passion for learning and my desire to help others grow. Gestalt and Crucible Therapy are two approaches I find most empowering both personally and professionally. While different, each approach is strengths-based and takes a holistic and real view of people, and how relationships and marriage work. They are also backed with research and evidence that supports their effectiveness in helping people with their relationships. I received my Certificate in Gestalt Therapy at Gestalt Institute of the Rockies in Golden, CO where I learned how to work with people, including myself, to rewire obstacles to authenticity and intimacy. More recently, I began training in Crucible® Therapy; an approach that incorporates neuroscience to help people move past projections, behaviors, and thoughts that inhibit intimacy. I take pride in the work I do and do “the work” from these approaches in my personal life. I want to share what I have learned to help people experience similar sustained and meaningful change in their relationships.

Working with me feels like a collaborative conversation where I provide warmth and compassion as we strive to better understand the things that have been weighing you down. I work with people who are 18 years and older.
