Have you experienced therapy in the past but maybe felt like the experience was too stuffy? Do you worry about judgement in the therapist’s office and find yourself filtering what you share? I know this reality is true for many people and my goal is to provide you with a new way of experiencing therapy. I have worked in all levels of care and I truly believe in a warm, holistic, and genuine approach to therapy. There is space for processing, crying, laughing, and anything else you need! I will utilize both Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT) throughout our work together to set a framework and present some level of psychoeducation. While the development of coping skills and understanding our thoughts and patterns to deal with distress and aid in emotion regulation will be important to our work together, my ultimate goal in therapy is to be flexible and holistic in my approach, working alongside you collaboratively to make powerful change towards the life that you envision. I honor that you are the expert of your own life, and as a therapist I am present to help process, empower, and seek joy. I understand college is one of the most stressful times in life, and having a trusted therapist to help during this transition can make the world of difference. I have been in your shoes and would love to be your partner in experiencing this difficult but rewarding and transformative time in life.

I see individuals working through transitional issues (university, relational, stage of life), common mental health issues (anxiety, depression, ADHD), and trauma (adverse childhood events, sexual/psychological/physical abuse, etc). Individuals I work with often are seeking therapy to feel more like themselves, relieve symptoms of mental health, and enjoy their day-to-day lives more. I find we are often a good fit when looking at therapy as an opportunity to connect, process, & grow. Hello! My name is Rachael Trimbur and I am here with you on your treatment journey however that may look. I take a very trauma-informed and strengths-based approach. I am trained in EMDR and have been using this approach for two years. I am a licensed clinical addictions counselor and a licensed clinical social worker with more than 10 years of experience working in the dual diagnosis field. I began my career working with substance use disorders and have a lot of experience in this area. I am also a qualified Substance Abuse Professional (SAP) and complete substance abuse evaluations. My experience includes working for community mental health centers, doing crisis work, working in an employee assisted treatment program, and program development for a substance use and medication-assisted treatment facility. I am always looking to expand my knowledge and stay up to date on evidenced-based treatment approaches. I understand that one size does not fit all and pull from various modalities to help those I work with meet their goals. The most important thing I have learned over the years is to learn from those I work with. I take a very person-centered approach. As Stephen Covey wrote, “Seek first to understand, then to be understood.”
I work best with students who are feeling overwhelmed, anxious, or trying to make sense of a lot of emotions at once. You might be navigating big transitions, relationship stress, academic pressure, or feeling unsure about who you are or what comes next. Sometimes everything looks “fine” on the outside, but internally it feels heavy or hard to manage. The students I work with are often thoughtful and self-aware, but may feel stuck, overthinking, or emotionally drained. They’re looking for a space where they can slow down, understand what they’re feeling, and learn how to manage stress in a way that actually works for them. If you’re open to exploring your experiences, building emotional awareness, and finding more balance and clarity, we would likely be a good fit.
