As a therapist, it is my aim to respectfully and gently sweep that path and guide the way towards meaningful reconnection, healing, and hope. I look forward to collaborating with you in that effort. There are many ways we learn to cope with hurt, stress, and loss and, given our past experiences and upbringing, these ways can often involve avoidance – wanting to escape or numb the pain. This may look like excessive screen use, emotional eating, self-medicating, isolating, self-harm, etc. If you’re noticing that what helped you get by until now no longer works, if it’s impacting your ability to show up in your life and engage with the things you care about most, then I want to be your ally and support you through the process of change. My approach is collaborative, non-judgmental, and warm. In each session I prioritize creating a safe space for you to explore what brings you into therapy while providing a constructive environment, utilizing evidence-based approaches, to help you learn healthier coping strategies and facilitate the change you want to make. I want you to know that you are not alone and asking for help is an act of courage. I want to hear your story and have the privilege to accompany you on your journey of self-exploration, healing, and growth. To quote Brené Brown, “Owning our story and loving ourselves through that process is the bravest thing that we will ever do.”
I believe change occurs in the context of our relationships, with our own self and with others. Oftentimes, when people seek out therapy, they are feeling lost, discarded, and may be filled with self-doubt and negative thoughts and feelings about themselves in the world. I work with clients to forge new ways of relating to ourselves and others to engage more fully in the world. We do this by learning a range of new skills and processing past experiences, but at its core, it is about connection with another human being and being seen, heard, understood, respected, and known. Therapeutically, I primarily use Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, and EMDR. With these two treatments you learn effective skills to manage painful thoughts, feelings, and sensations, develop direction and purpose, as well as process painful past experiences towards resolution and prepare for how to handle the future. My style as a therapist is energetic, accepting, compassionate, and challenging. I truly love my work and experience a deep sense of gratitude for being able to participate in it. People are endlessly complex and I am constantly in awe of our resilience and depth as human beings. If what I’ve written here speaks to you, I encourage you to reach out.

I am a firm believer that when undergoing life’s challenges, we owe it to ourselves to be our own best support person we can be. Sometimes that means asking for help. Whether it’s managing the stresses of everyday life, keeping up with ever changing and ongoing societal and systemic concerns, or managing serious mental health distress, I am excited and honored to work with you towards your therapy goals.
Hi, my name is Sandy! I am a Master’s level therapist with a special interest in working with adolescents and immigrant populations. I am bilingual in English and Burmese and am open to taking patients in both languages. I completed my Bachelor’s in Psychology at the University of Illinois at Chicago, and my Master’s in Clinical Psychology at Roosevelt University. I am a part of the Illinois Counseling Association (ICA). I have experience working with children and adolescents in an inpatient psychiatric hospital and working with older adults and veterans on an online Cognitive Behavioral Therapy program. I mainly work from a trauma informed cognitive behavioral framework, while incorporating techniques from psychodynamic and ACT practices. As a therapist, I enjoy creating a safe space for individuals to share their experiences, thoughts, and emotions without judgment or biases. I am particularly drawn to working with immigrants on their mental health as I believe they are often underserved and as an immigrant myself, I am very familiar with the stressors of immigrating and the cultural factors that come with it.
At our therapy practice, we specialize in supporting those who are navigating challenging life transitions, struggling with anxiety, or facing difficulties in dating and relationships. Many of the individuals we work with share a common experience: they are going through periods of change or uncertainty, whether it’s adjusting to a new environment, managing the pressures of school or work, or trying to understand their emotions in relationships. They often feel stuck, unsure of their next steps, and are seeking a supportive space to sort through their thoughts and feelings. We understand how overwhelming it can be to face these challenges alone, and our goal is to help clients find clarity, build confidence, and take meaningful steps forward. If feeling lost, anxious, or frustrated is part of your current experience, know that you’re not alone—and you don’t have to navigate it by yourself. Together, we can create a path that feels right for you.

I’m Mary Patton, LCSW, a therapist who gets how overwhelming this phase of life can be. I work with college students who want a space to talk it out, find clarity, and feel more grounded. We provide individual, couples, and family therapy and will co-create therapy goals with you. In addition to understanding your experiences from your cultural lens, we are also conscious of the impact of sociocultural dynamics, historical trauma as well as current and past political systems on your life. We recognize that it is not uncommon to be trapped in narratives and roles from your past. If this is the case, we will help you identify contributors to the “stuckness”, and guide you in recreating your narrative, keeping in mind your values and aspirations, to help you feel the authentic version of yourself. During the course of therapy, in addition to exploring and helping you recreate your story on your terms, we will also assist you in identifying a repertoire of skills and tools that make you feel more connected and make daily life more meaningful. We specialize in serving immigrants, South Asian, and Middle Eastern communities. Please see our specialization page for more information.

The past few years have been incredibly difficult for everyone, regardless of background or finances. I’ve always been captivated by love, connection, and the strength people show through life’s toughest moments. Being transracially adopted is a meaningful part of my identity—it’s given me a deep appreciation for the complex, beautiful ways people form relationships and a strong commitment to honoring diversity, neurodiversity, and inclusion. As your therapist, I offer a calming, collaborative, and nonjudgmental presence. Whether you’re navigating anxiety, relationship challenges, identity exploration, or life transitions, I want therapy to be a space where you feel seen, safe, and supported to explore your story. I believe that everyone deserves to feel heard, valued, and connected—and that real growth happens when we slow down, reflect together, and make space for what truly matters to you. I work with individuals and couples of all backgrounds, and I’m especially passionate about helping people feel empowered in their relationships—with themselves and others. I’m currently earning my Master’s in Couple and Family Therapy at Adler University. As I grow in the field, I find myself drawn to Narrative, Emotionally Focused, and Collaborative therapies—approaches that center your lived experience and emphasize meaningful connection, healing, and change. I attend supervision with Mia Dal Santo, LMFT. You don’t have to have it all figured out before reaching out.
