In each person's life a little rain must fall. At times, however, it may feel as though you are ill equipped to weather the storm. Gaining new coping skills, strengthening self-esteem and adopting new behaviors are just some of the possible outcomes of successful counseling. I consider it an honor to hear your story and work with you towards change. Whether you are battling anxiety, low self-esteem, going through a transition such as a career change or are dealing with past wounds, my hope is that you'll find a safe place to land as we work together to find a place that brings fulfillment and helps you reach your goals. I work from a person-centered approach, understanding that we each come with our own strengths and challenges. I offer a collaborative approach and encouraging space utilizing techniques from a variety of theoretical frameworks and evidenced-based treatments. I am certified in Cognitive Processing Therapy for Posttraumatic Stress Disorder. We will work together to identify your goals and make a plan on how to achieve them. I strive to listen empathetically and provide a judgement-free space to explore the things keeping you from living the life you desire. If you are ready to start experiencing life in a more fulfilling way, I would be happy to help you get started.
I enjoy working with students trying to navigate life's challenges, struggling with anxiety/depression/sleep issues/college stress/relationship issues and are motivated, open, and willing to look within themselves for the answers and personal strengths necessary to heal and grow. I connect on a personal and relaxed level and invite my clients to do the same. I assist in growing my clients' knowledge of the connection between the body, mind, and spirit and believe each of them has an important story to tell.

I’m a first-generation daughter who grew up learning to navigate life’s biggest transitions without a guidebook. From a young age, I was fiercely independent, facing adversity head-on and figuring things out as I went. That experience taught me the deep value of healing, and it shaped my belief that no one should have to struggle alone. I know what it feels like to be lost in the process of change when the road ahead is unclear and support feels out of reach. That’s why I’m passionate about being a therapist. I see the courage it takes to reach out, and I honor the resilience that lives in every person I meet. My work is rooted in creating a space where people feel seen, supported, and empowered to find their way forward, no matter where they’re starting from.

I am a faith based provider and utilize CBT (Cognitive Behavioral Therapy) among other interventions - each person is unique so each approach is unique. I look forward to the opportunity to work with you! Note: Insurance Accepted through Headway and Self-Pay by contacting me directly.

Sara Pelaez is a Licensed Clinical Mental Health Professional practicing in Georgia, Illinois, and Florida. She works with individuals and couples with a focus on students. Many of her clients have found great success in their personal and college lives, but struggle to feel connected in their relationships or at peace in their daily lives. Sara is particularly sensitive to clients facing present-past trauma, moments of transition, relationship or emotional issues when the delicate balance can seem to tremble, and symptoms of anxiety, depression, and self-doubt can emerge. Sara’s approach is rooted in EMDR, Somatic Experiencing, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Dialectical Behavioral Therapy, and Emotional Focus Therapy. These are evidence-based approaches that focus on helping clients understand how their thoughts, feelings, and behaviors are interconnected so that they can begin to make a targeted change. It is a bottom-up/top-down approach that provides a 360 view of the client's inner world. She works to help clients understand their physical response to external stressors, and begin to problem-solve ways to introduce moments of calm, to choose to respond rather than react in the face of change. Sara is focused on ensuring that her clients see real progress: her style is interactive, non-judgmental, and positions clients as the experts on where they are now, and where they want to go. A trauma-informed therapist, Sara is sensitive to the influence of past experiences on present challenges and works closely with clients to reframe the narrative of their life in a way that increases self-confidence and compassion. Sara’s first priority in starting with a new client is ensuring that they feel safe, heard, and like an equal partner in the therapeutic process. As a seasoned telehealth provider, she offers the convenience of remote sessions to help make therapy a core component of your self-care calendar.
As a marriage and family therapist, the clients I work best with tend to share a few key characteristics. Many of them are looking for ways to improve their relationships, whether that means addressing issues with a spouse, family members, or even themselves. They often feel stuck or overwhelmed by the challenges they’re facing and are looking for guidance in creating healthier, more fulfilling connections. If you’re someone who wants to better understand yourself and your relationships, or if you’re facing communication struggles, trust issues, or simply trying to navigate life changes, my practice might be a great fit for you. You don’t have to go through these challenges alone — many people come to therapy seeking support in learning how to communicate more effectively, heal from past hurts, or find balance in their lives. I work with individuals, couples, and families who are motivated to make changes and improve their relationships. If you’re open to learning new tools and strategies to strengthen your connections with others, we might be a great match! Together, we’ll explore your experiences and find ways to move forward in a healthy, positive direction.

Live and Thrive Counseling is my private practice in the community of Carrollton, Georgia. My office is close to the downtown area, but given the covid-19 changes in our daily living practices, my sessions are now fully online. I have experience working with children, adolescents, and adults that are struggling with depression, anxiety, poor body image, life transitions, self esteem issues, and trauma. As a registered yoga teacher (E-RYT 200) and a licensed professional counselor, I enjoy using the cognitive behavioral modality, given its heavy emphasis on mindfulness and cognitive restructuring. In addition to CBT concepts, sessions often include breathing exercises and relaxation strategy practice that the client can eventually learn to practice on his or her own to promote positive self care and healthy coping skills.
