My office is just a short walk from CU-Boulder's campus. I work with all kinds of clients in all kinds of configurations. I meet with individuals, couples, and families, and I like to work with clients across time. I am eager to have conversations with you as you sort through complicated feelings, try out new ways of being, or just get to be vulnerable for a bit. I will help you gain a more profound understanding of your experience, a deeper connection with self and others, and a recognition of your values and beliefs, so that you can ask for and have the rich life and meaningful relationships you want and deserve.

My work rests on a profound respect for the human capacity to change as well as a deep appreciation of the impact of emotional pain on the process of living. This perspective emerged from my 25+ years in practice, my formal training, my work at psychiatric hospitals and other facilities, my experience as a supervisor and a teacher, and a life lived as a member of the human species. Although my approach depends on the needs of each individual, I believe the relationship between therapist and client is the foundation for psychotherapy and a window into the client's other relationships, both historical and contemporary. I adopt a collaborative approach to create a safe space in which there is respect for the ways in which individuals have learned to cope with traumatic and painful experiences. Rather than pathologize these currently anachronistic survival strategies, I help clients understand them as creative attempts to cope that may have outlived their usefulness. believe that choosing the right therapist is more than just a matter of credentials and experience. I believe it involves finding someone with whom you have the right "fit." For this reason, I offer initial appointments that are free of charge if you decide not to work with me. I welcome your inquiries.

I spent much of my adult life working in Emergency Medicine as a Paramedic before going to the Physician Assistant program at Loma Linda University in Southern California. After graduating from there in 2018, I spent the past five years working in addiction medicine in a residential treatment program in Boulder, Colorado. Working in addiction medicine, I commonly assisted adult patients, of all ages, dealing with anxiety, depression, cravings, withdrawal symptoms and sleep challenges. Patients would often come to me wanting to reduce their amount of medications to just what was helpful and necessary and I would take a lot of pride in helping them achieve that goal. Genetic testing provides a helpful tool to initially choose, change or adjust a dose of a particular medication. I believe that it is important to meet an individual where they are in the healing process and to address the whole person rather than just the presenting problem or symptom. To address the “whole person” requires getting a detailed history and a partnership between patient and provider. Establishing such a partnership gives me great joy.

Hi! My name is Alicia, and I want to meet you. Yes, you! College can be intense. You're away from home with the pressure to succeed and do well, but there's also dealing with roommates, parties, and being around people who resemble aliens. You know, they just don't get you and you've never encountered anyone quite like them before. On top of this, you may be the first in your family to go to college. You can't admit to them that it's hard. They had all their hopes and dreams riding on you. So where to go? Come to therapy! Yes, therapy. It may be your first time talking to someone, but I promise it helps to tell someone what you're thinking and what you're feeling. College doesn't have to be scary, and you don't have to go through it alone. We can figure it out together. I am a licensed clinical social worker who has worked with many college students, especially those who identify as first-gen and/or veterans. Therapy with me is conversational. In sessions, you can speak freely. I'm not into judging. That would probably make me a lousy therapist. I offer thoughtful reflection and point out patterns in your behavior that may not be the most helpful, and then we problem-solve and strategize solutions to help get you feeling better. I can also teach you skills to help when your emotions feel overwhelming.

At Foothills CBT, we offer evidence-based therapies that have been validated by extensive research studies. Our mission is to provide our community with life-changing psychological services for long-lasting emotional health and wellness. As a psychologist candidate, I have completed my PhD in Clinical Psychology at CU Boulder (go Buffs!) and I am practicing under the supervision of Dr. Samantha Monk Grigsby while pursuing independent licensure. I believe that this human life is NOT easy, and is often full of pain! At the same time, I deeply believe that when equipped with the right tools, each individual has the potential to create a vibrant and personally meaningful life. I am passionate about empowering my clients to make the changes they wish to see in their day-to-day lives. I have been trained in a wide variety of empirically-supported treatments, including Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) and Cognitive Behavior Therapy (CBT). I work with adult clients with a wide variety of presenting concerns, including anxiety or depressive disorders, PTSD, OCD, insomnia, and chronic pain. My style is warm, collaborative, and genuine. I teach clients skills to increase awareness of and create more helpful relationships with their thoughts, emotions, and behaviors. I also help clients learn to flexibly shift their attention at will; to build self-compassion; and to clarify personal values, solve problems, and move towards important goals. I would love to join your team. Please give our intake coordinator a call for more information, and let’s get started!
