Do you feel stuck in anxiety, numbness, or low self esteem? We're here to help. We are licensed trauma counselors with a niche in childhood trauma and spiritual hurt. Our practice specializes in counseling for anxiety and trauma. Many people dealing with this, have been taught they can't trust themselves, can't love and have autonomy with their body, and have to stick to their respective scripts. These stories have come from harmful religious experiences, childhood trauma, as well as social messaging such as heterosexism, racism, ableism, sizeism cisgenderism, etc. We have the tools to help you be the agent of your own healing. We believe everyone has the innate capacity to heal from distressing experiences in order to move forward and be their authentic compassionate selves.

I work with adults in helping them manage their Anxiety, Depression and stressful life situations. Balancing your professional and personal life can be difficult. My clients learn skills to self-regulate, problem solve and make well-informed decisions. My specialty is also working with adults with executive functioning issues including being on the Autism Spectrum. My clients are better equipped to make informed choices about what actions they need to take and develop skills that will help them handle difficult situations in the future. I use play therapy, cognitive behavioral therapy, and neuroscience based interventions to help one express their thoughts and feelings.

I believe in empowering my clients to access and to unfold to their own inner wisdom and brilliance. Rather than providing all the answers or solutions, I facilitate a supportive and non-judgmental environment where clients can investigate their thoughts, feelings, and experiences. My academic journey has taken me to many different countries, and I am passionate about combining my interest in western psychology with the ancient wisdom of Buddhist psychology. I earned her bachelor’s degree in psychology from Canterbury University, New Zealand (2009) and her master’s degree in motivational psychology from the University in Zurich, Switzerland (2012). She also holds an additional master's degree from Naropa University in contemplative psychology. I bring my unique blend of experiences to her work. Among other adventures, I have worked in Zanskar Valley in Ladakh, Northern India and has studied psychology in Nepal, Indian. I have also taught Yoga and Yoga therapy to athletes. I take a trauma informed approach to therapy, combining her training in Somatic Experiencing with other contemplative approaches as well as elements of IFS, Polyvagal, solution focused therapy, and positive psychology. Offering therapy online.

My role with clients is to be an observer, to transformation and change. Just as in metaphysics, having an observer changes the dynamics of the situation. In my role I don’t just observe but compassionately walk with those I work with and take a non-directive approach to what the individual perceives as precedent. Through mindfulness practices we aim to recenter the body, mind and felt sense of what the individual is processing. Through this somatic approach we emphasize the importance of feeling, what the mind is rationalizing. This may present itself as parts of us that come to light with observation and acknowledgement. The bridging of worldviews is made by shifting root metaphors and bringing awareness to the archetypal nature of the issues that all human beings face as part of being alive. By providing a safe non-judgmental space that invites the sum parts of an individual, we look to address the shadow work and take a deeper look into the smoky mirror. If you are searching for healing and striving to be the best version of yourself, I encourage you to reach out. I would be honored to chat and see if we are a good fit to accompany your journey of self-discovery.

Clinical Social Work/Therapist
Buffalo, NY

My goal for therapy is to work towards helping my clients find the strength and resilience needed to get through what life brings to the table. I am a certified EMDR therapist, though I use multiple therapeutic approaches with each client and tailor therapy to each individual's needs. I take great pride in building a strong therapeutic relationship with the clients I see, as I believe that is the foundation of therapy! I have experience working with adolescents, young adults, adults, and families as a whole. I love watching people grow throughout the therapeutic process, whether that entails mending strained relationships, working through trauma(s), embarking on a new journey, or finding personal strength. My passion to help others is what motivates me daily. It may be nerve wracking, overwhelming, and/or slightly uncomfortable, but just know that I am here to help, however I can. It can seem like a challenge to find a good therapist, but it is absolutely worth it to push forward until you find the best fit for you. I am licensed in New York, Colorado, Nevada, Florida, and South Carolina. Please note: I am not paneled with any insurance companies in Colorado, Florida, Nevada, or South Carolina.

e therapy is a journey to talk alongside you. Though I might be considered the "expert" in the areas in which you're looking for help, I also believe that you are the expert on you. I have a very collaborative and interpersonal style and though I use various empirically supported interventions to enhance with coping, the relationship between me and you is the most important thing. Change and growth are the goals of therapy. Change is a very subjective word, and it completely depends on where you are in your life when you come into therapy. I believe in working with the client together to form goals and a treatment plan, knowing that the plan will change along the way as the client experiences growth and change. Therapy is a proactive journey on the part of both client and therapist; sustainable and meaningful change stems from a combination of having a helpful guide, a sense of willingness, shared insight and working towards specific goals.

Who I work with: - People who are fired up and ready to do this - “Refugees” from conventional eating disorder treatment who are ready to finally get to the root of the issue - Folks with some sass, fire, and rebelliousness (with a soft and sensitive core) - Quirky go-getters, nerds and misfits, and outsiders with undercover witchy tendencies - People who want better relationships, emotional resiliency skills, and a healthier relationship with food and their body - People who’ve tried talk therapy and have an inkling there’s something more: a deeper, more soulful connection to themselves and all their inner parts. *I welcome folks of all identities and sizes How I work: Is it frustrating for you when people tell you to “just let it go” or “be kinder to yourself”? As if there were some switch you could flip…if you just weren’t so stubborn / clueless / goofy. First up: there is no such switch. (If there were, someone would have patented it by now). Second up: suggestions like this, no matter how well-intentioned, almost never work. They can also leave us feeling frustrated and like failures. Self-compassion and emotional healing are trickier than most people (or cutesy magnets) would have you believe. Myth: Just talk through why you feel this way and you problem will vanish. Truth: Real healing takes more than head-knowing. It’s a whole-bodied affair. This is why typical talk therapy - where you come in, sit on a couch, share how you feel - often falls short. You leave feeling like "ok, I feel a little better, but now what?" So I work a little differently. Still talk, still insight, but more connection to body, intuition, and emotions. We get beyond the "why" and get to the actual "how" of real change. You can read more about my approach at www.stephaniesmallhealth.com. I’m a licensed clinical social worker and nutritionist. I received my BA from Yale University, my MSW from Smith College for Social work, and certificates in Holistic Nutrition Education and Mental Health Nutrition from Bauman College and the Academy for Addiction and Mental Health Nutrition. I ran the nutrition program at a substance abuse recovery center in Denver for two years and have trained in trauma therapy, internal parts work, somatic therapies, and more. I currently maintain a private practice online and in Boulder and Denver, CO, write for national and local publications, consult for mental health agencies and substance abuse recovery centers, and speak at live events.
