Therapists for college students near Boulder, CO
About My Clients My clients bring their strengths, lived experiences, and wisdom to our therapy sessions every day. They bring resilience from the traumatic experiences they face and many of my clients bring and/or discuss the ways relationships impact their day to day lives. My Approach to Helping As a social worker, marriage and family therapist in training, and educator I value and center the wisdom that clients bring into the therapeutic conversation. My values also lie heavily in centering and validating the experiences of my clients from an inclusive perspective. My goal is to balance trusting the client to make the best decisions for themselves and create space for collaboration in the therapeutic process. Whether it is Individual, Couples Therapy, or Family Therapy, I believe that therapeutic interventions are tools that support the relationships, not replace them! Being a woman of color in the field of mental health guides and builds empathy in my work. I believe in creating a comfortable and supportive environment that encourages trust-building and playfulness when appropriate. I approach my work through meeting my clients where they are and creating customized clinical experiences based on the needs of my clients.

With an eclectic therapeutic approach, I tailor my services to each person's unique needs, employing three main modalities: Emotion Focused/ Psychodynamic Therapy, Compassion-Focused Therapy, & Mindfulness-based/Somatic-based Therapy. Please visit the Frequently Asked Questions section for additional details about these modalities. My approach is centered around helping clients develop self-esteem, authenticity, and emotional regulation skills through building a compassionate presence and mindful awareness. We focus on the present, while integrating the past and being courageously hopeful for the future, even if uncertain. Utilizing the virtual therapy platform Doxy, I provide accessible and convenient care without compromising quality. I am also the author of the books and guided journals: 12 Ways to Cope With Your Latina Mom & Her Difficulties and 12 Ways to Cope With Your Latino Dad & His Difficulties, available on amazon or through direct purchase. If you're carrying a story that feels too heavy, too painful, or perhaps too fragmented to tell, I offer a supportive space to help you reclaim the parts of your story that have been buried, silenced, or distorted by trauma. Together, we will work to gently untangle your story, reconnect with your inner strength, and move toward lasting relief and empowerment. You deserve to feel safe, grounded, and whole. My approach is collaborative, compassionate, and respectful of your pace. Healing isn’t about “fixing” you — it’s about honoring the parts of you that adapted to survive and creating space for something new. Sometimes the first step in healing is telling your story. Originally from Chicago, I moved to Colorado to pursue my Master’s at the University of Denver, which confirmed my passion for social work. Before opening my private practice, I worked extensively with survivors of intimate partner abuse, individuals in recovery and couples in crisis. This experience provided me with deep expertise in attachment therapy and reinforced the vital importance of trauma-informed care. My background has shaped a clinical approach rooted in curiosity and a drive to understand the motivations behind actions. This perspective allows me to serve my clients through relational lens, focusing on meaningful connection and growth. If you choose to work with me, you will find a collaborative environment defined by non-judgment and openness. Regardless of your goals, your identities, or where you are in your journey, it would be my honor to support you and your loved ones. I look forward to being your advocate as we work together to reach your goals.

Being in college is not like any other time in your life. Some parts of it can be just great and others very challenging and even completely overwhelming at times. It is not at all uncommon for college students to feel anxious, depressed, uncertain about themselves and the future, or to find themselves very challenged by academics, personal identity, thinking of the future, and dealing with complicated relationships of all kinds. I get it! I worked in two university counseling centers before going into private practice and developed a lot of respect for the challenges facing college students. You guys are one of my favorite groups of people to work with, too, because you are in this unique position of usually being fairly newly out of your family home, able to make more choices on your own, and have your whole lives ahead of you to shape the way you want them to be--scary though that is. I'm happy to help you if I can.
A lot of people say they knew at a young age they would be a therapist, but that wasn’t me. I grew up in a military family and thought I would continue that tradition and be a stay-at-home mom. Instead, I found myself in a journalism career and a marriage I didn’t like. Starting over after 30, I chose to return to school and pursue a degree in social work. Since then, I’ve worked with the military, in inpatient facilities, and in outpatient care. I love working with women who find themselves “outside the box” when it comes to societal expectations (child-free/childless, unmarried, or just a-plain-ol’ rebel). I love to focus on resiliency, self-improvement/self-esteem, personal growth, and even a bit of spirituality (if that's your thing). I'm a very laid-back, nontraditional therapist. I believe you are the expert in your own life and, sometimes, we just need some guidance or permission to do the things we know we need to do. I don't assign homework cause, frankly, I wouldn't do it if I were in your shoes, but I will suggest some tasks or actions that may be something to focus on between sessions. I also expect clients to show up with a discussion topic or something to start us off with; again, the time is yours to use as you feel best. I have very eclectic interests. Two things that are very important to me are spirituality and non-traditional relationships. I feel both have their own challenges and prejudices to overcome. I'm always looking for ways to include and incorporate my client's spiritual beliefs (if they choose to share) into sessions and help them build a strong foundation. Nontraditional relationships (including kink dynamics) can be a challenge to bring to therapy as there's often a perceived level of judgment—not here! I celebrate however your relationship looks and work to help you create the most nurturing and healthy relationship however that looks. One of my core values is curiosity, so I love it when I get to learn a little something from my clients. Having grown up in a military family that moved every three years like clockwork, learning about people and cultures has been a huge part of my life. I encourage my clients to practice showing and embodying their authenticity with me so they may go out into the world more confidently. I believe we all have something beautiful to share and learn from each other and I encourage those I work with to explore that on a deeper level.
