What if getting better didn't mean spending years talking about everything that's ever gone wrong? I work with college and grad students to build real, lasting change by providing insight and skills that actually help. With over a decade of clinical work in the US and abroad, I've helped young adults manage anxiety, quiet the perfectionism and imposter syndrome that follow them into every exam and internship, while creating a healthy type of confidence that remains under pressure. My clients describe working with me as supportive, direct, collaborative, and nothing like what they expected therapy to be. We figure out what's driving the pattern. Then we work on changing it. I specialize in: anxiety, burnout and stress, low self-esteem, perfectionism, and people-pleasing. My approach pulls from CBT, ACT, Positive Psychology, and Mindfulness, grounded in a trauma-informed model. You don't have to have it figured out to start. Currently offering Online Therapy throughout Massachusetts, New York, Colorado, Vermont, and Florida. Whether you are in Boston, NYC, or Denver, I am ready when you are.

Starting therapy can feel intimidating, especially when you're juggling school, relationships, family expectations, or just trying to figure out who you are and what matters to you. I work best with students who feel overwhelmed, stuck, or like they’re carrying more than they can manage alone. You might be navigating anxiety, burnout, grief, family conflict, or a major life transition—and I’m here to help you feel grounded again. My style is warm, collaborative, and down-to-earth. I’ll never judge you for what you’re feeling. Instead, I’ll support you in understanding yourself better and building tools to manage what’s hard. Before opening my private practice, I worked for years in a medical setting supporting young people and families through complex challenges. Today, I specialize in working with individuals living with chronic illnesses, as well as the caregivers and siblings who support them—but many of my clients also come to me with everyday stress, identity questions, or big decisions about the future. If you’re looking for a therapist who will meet you where you are, help you make sense of your experiences, and walk alongside you as you grow, I’d love to connect.

I love helping people better understand themselves, their struggles, and their place in the world. I work with first and second generation immigrants, LGBTQIA+ folks, and creatives to make sense of big life questions, understand symptoms of depression and anxiety, process grief and trauma, and have better relationships. With over 15 years of experience in mental health, I have neuroscience, somatic and anti-oppression based tools in my pocket to help people resolve symptoms of anxiety, depression, and trauma, helping folks manage day-to-day symptoms and heal their past.

Are you struggling with adjustment, anxiety, depression, anger, school stress, social concerns, or grief? Or maybe you are feeling less motivated, tired, and overwhelmed. You don’t have to go through these emotions or challenges alone. Together, we can work through the tough things, build healthy coping skills, strengthen confidence, and help you feel more balanced and supported throughout your college journey. My approach is focused on the whole person with an emphasis on the strengths you already have. I offer virtual therapy with flexible scheduling to fit therapy into your schedule. Grounded, Compassionate and Practical Therapy I work with people navigating change, loss, grief, relationship changes, identity shifts, and the quiet moments when life no longer fits the way it used to. These are tender, often disorienting seasons, and you don’t have to move through them alone.

I work primarily with young adults who are navigating that in-between stage of life—college, early career, shifting relationships, and figuring out what’s next. Many of my clients come in feeling overwhelmed, stuck, or unsure of themselves, often dealing with anxiety, depression, or big life transitions. I tend to be a good fit for students who are looking for more consistent, ongoing support outside of a short-term counseling model. I also have experience working with clients who are struggling with higher levels of distress, including suicidal thoughts or self-harm, and I aim to provide a steady, supportive space where they can feel safe and work toward stability. My approach is warm, collaborative, and practical. I focus on helping clients better understand what they’re going through, build coping skills, and feel more grounded and confident in themselves and their decisions. Because my practice is fully virtual, I’m able to offer flexible scheduling that works well for students balancing classes, work, and other responsibilities.

Over the last 25 years I have worked with clients who are seeking, peace, healing and develop insight and self-awareness. In my work with clients, there are several treatment modalities utilized, primarily CBT, Somatic Therapy, Whole Person and art therapy. One of my primary focuses with my clients is to create and/or improve their self-care plan since it is instrumental in managing daily stressors and mental health concerns. Self-care is important for me to also have in place and my self-care plan includes photography, being an avid football fan (and most sports), time with my friends and family

I am so glad you stopped by! I am eager to work with college students, like yourself, and have a background in working with both undergrad and grad students in the Dallas area. In therapy, I offer a safe and confidential relationship, where you can hope to gain self-esteem, relevant skills, and personal strength, learning to more fully trust yourself and others. A great deal of my clients are wrestling with depression, anxiety, and self-worth due to family/childhood issues and relational struggles that tend to become more apparent once they have entered college. Together, we dig into these hard conversations and I help you relate differently to anxiety, pain, fear, and sadness, while also coming alongside you in creating the life you desire. Finding a therapist you connect with is an important aspect of effective therapy. I will serve you with respect and empathy while encouraging you in your personal journey of growth. I am both honored and committed to meeting you where you are, learning where you want to go, and helping you find the best way there. I hope to talk to you soon!

I received my master's degree in social work and bachelor's degree in psychology from MSU Denver and my professional background includes over 10 years of experience working with BIPOC adolescents, families, and adults in various settings. Clients would describe me as down-to-earth, grounded, validating, and easy to talk to. I value creating a therapeutic relationship that feels genuine and supportive while also encouraging growth and self-reflection. I'm trained in Emotionally Focused Therapy which helps with exploring emotions, attachment patterns, and relationship dynamics to create deeper emotional connection and security; EMDR which allows us to process difficult or traumatic experiences that may continue to impact the present; and Dialectical Behavioral Therapy which provides practical tools for managing emotions, navigating stress, improving relationships, and building resilience.

I'm Julie TenBrook, PHMNP. I'm the owner of Open Minds. Open Minds symbolizes acceptance, on my part, of who you are without judgement. It, also, symbolizes the opening of your mind to change and healing. Being in college is a time of rapid growth. This can be hard. Figuring out how to navigate school, new relationships, new routines and define who you are as a young adult can be stressful. If you are feeling stressed, overwhelmed, and anxious, I can help. Treatment is tailored to what you need. It is usually multi-modal and not "just" medications or "just" therapy. Everyone's needs are different and we can design a treatment plan that fits you.
