Allison Rayburn
I work with college students who are tired of overthinking everything, worrying they did something wrong, and feeling misunderstood—even when they're trying really hard to get it right.
Maybe there was a lot of stress growing up. Someone you love may have had a hard childhood of their own, struggled with addiction or mental health, or there was simply a lot going on. You may have learned to notice what other people needed, keep the peace, or grow up pretty quickly.
And somehow, you can be incredibly capable while still feeling like you have no idea what you're doing.
Being away at college can give you enough distance to start seeing things differently. At the same time, there's that voice saying, "It wasn't that bad." "Other people had it worse." "Maybe I'm overreacting." You can understand why things were the way they were, care deeply about the people in your life, and still wonder whether some of it affected you more than you've let yourself believe.
You may want something different without blaming anyone, being ungrateful, or feeling like you're betraying the people you love.
In therapy, we don't have to decide whether it was "bad enough." We get curious about how things came to make sense—what you learned, what you needed, what may have been missing, and how it shows up now. We use different questions and approaches so you have more ways to understand yourself and more choices about what comes next.
Therapy with me is meant to feel natural. You can start with "I don't know," jump around, use humor, or have no idea where to begin.
You can understand where you came from, care about the people who got you here, and still want something different for yourself.
